I was just reading in the Yahoo Multipla Forum about a guy who suggested that there is a fault with the JTD if it does not rev up to 5000rpm. The most I have taken my JTD to is 4000rpm and it didn't seem to want to go much further, I didn't push it though. Is this normal?? what results have any of you had in this area??

After all 4000rpm in 5th gear would be about 110 mph, not bad aah!

Sorry Guys,

I didn't mean to scare my Multipla Owner Buddies about this issue. And I don't want to take the blame for any blown up engines either :) . I was just wondering if there was something wrong with my JTD as it only goes slightly past 4000rpm. The car and engine runs beautiful though.

It was me who said my Multi jtd was revving up to 5000rpm. There was at the time untill today a fault with the following parts, throttle potentiometer, Mass airflow sensor, a temperature sensor and finally the EGR valve. The symptoms at the time of taking the car to the dealer was below 2500 rpm it crawled...literally crawled along. At about 2500 rpm it took off like a scalded cat to about five thousand revs, the wheels, on damp roads on the day, were spinning uncontrollably, due in part I would imagine to the throttle potentiometer playing up. Plus, at the end, the amount of smoke coming out the back you would think the car was on fire! When at the dealer we all agreed the car was unsafe/unfit to drive. Due to circumstances I wont go into, the car had to be trailered to another dealer twenty miles away for work to be done other than the diagnostic work to determine all of the above faults, with the exception of the EGR valve. Once the sensors were replaced the car drove well until it got hot, at that point we had the smoke problem again!
This was yesterday diagnosed as the EGR valve and was replaced today, (Sat). (Well done TJ Vickers of Telford) The car now drives beautifully and performs as it should. I have just come down the Telford Queensway and it accelerates straightaway up to about 4800rpm without any hesitation. This is not something I normally do I must hasten to add. It was because the car was freshly repaired and had to be thoroughly tested...officer! I normally never get above about 2500 rpm unless on the motorway which is why I never realised untill the throttle pot went that the car was faulty.
Finally, if your car wont pass 4000 rpm, two thoughts, are you trying cos it should and throttle potentiometer! That is exactly like mine was this time last year when it went then too! They are not proving to be that robust!
Moriarty the mundane is back on the road again...

Re: 2.2 in Ulysse

You are indeed right, it is the PSA engine in the Ulysse [although when I was sold it at the time, was told by dealership it was an Alfa JTD unit, ffs]...

Still, I would have though same characteristics rev wise?!

Hi Guys,

I took my Multi out this afternoon and found out that if I floor the accelerator pedal (something I very seldom do to my cars) it does respond very well and I can get to about 5000rpm and probably way past it if I had the bottle to be so inconsiderate to my dear Multi. I did look out the rear window and I saw a slight grey haze of smoke in the far far distance. :) These cars can fly.

The multipla has a governer at around 4500-4700 i think. I have indeed had mine to 115mph at around 4500. Only once, anything over 3000 seems a bit much....

My Idea 1.9 Multijet JTD has no problem with revs! I've seen 5200 in first, 5000 in second and third, 4900 in fourth, but only 4000 or so in fifth. Road speeds are 45, 85, 133, 180, and 190 KmH. If Fiat would give it the 150 horse-power it would run about 230, which is very fast for a mini-MPV with too much body roll.
