Sorry to hear your bad news Jug! What is it that you actually do if 4 other IT staff can in theory replace you?
i'm a process analyst, so i examine what each dept does, then create process maps and user guides that explain what they do in detail, then suggest improvements and implement them. i maintain an intranet that i created myself to allow process maps and user guides and company policy etc to be accessed or modified by anyone anywhere. i plan and manage major changes such as moving a dept from one site to another. i also help out in IT with the helpdesk and dealing with hardware/software support.

Just think of everything you know that they dont. Its at times like this where a lack of documentation always comes in handy! ;) And make sure you point out how much you have saved them, and how you managed it as well.
i like the "everything you know that they dont" idea. it could be a very long list now i think about it.

everything you know that they dontAs an IT Security Officer within the NHS, try as hard as you can to get in. As you have said, the public service is the best place to be when a recession hits.[/quote]
yeah and the money is good and so is the pension :D
information security in the public sector is a huge growth area these days thanks to high profile information losses. there are very few people on earth that have direct experience creating and implementing an information security managment system capable of satisfying ISO27001. i am one of those people :slayer:

Don't you have a finger in the IT pie?

login local admin. open HR document. Replace your name with name of 'victim'. Save document. Buy "Sorry you're leaving" card while at lunch.

tbh that is very possible, and now you mention it very tempting if only to have a quick sneak peak. we use synchronisation of all desktops and mydocs to a server that i have an admin account for.

be careful this could lead to an even quicker dismissal!!

dont worry, i'll use someone else's computer to do it. :ROFLMAO:

nah, i'll just wait 2 weeks for the announcement. come what may life is gay hip hip hooray what else can you say
nearly christmas!! Sing happy birthday to jesus in a pub - and then start a debate as to when he was actually born!! always good for a laugh!!:D

Really sorry to hear this Jug :( I know how you are feeling as we had similar at my work not long back, ending in one person in each branch (on average) being made redundant or leaving and not being replaced. It's horrible having this cloud hanging over you, when the backbiting starts and people feel they cannot trust others they have worked alongside for years. But as I said to all my girls, end of the day you have to look out for number one and sell yourself like hell to the bosses as to why you should stay. Good luck

this country is in a **** state of affairs

Not just our country though is it? :chin:. I think the UK is coping very well on the big old scheme of things. Look at the U.S.A!, or Iceland!, or even sweden.

My friend in sweden has just had to sell his car to keep a roof over his head for another 6 months. If things don't pick up by then he'll be homeless.

thing is, when will this be over? no-one knows.

Yeah thats the scary thing. tbh i'd say theres a chance it will never be over. World population is at a all time high and it aint getting any smaller!, food, oil, and "essentials" to live in the modern world are just going to get more and more scarce (and cost more).

This aint helped by peoples greed, I especially love hearing about these people who bought their house in 1980 for £30kish sold it in 2000ish for £200k now have a mortgage for £250k and are now in negative equity . Serves them right!.

i know people who bought houses for a lot less in 1980 and still owe 90% of its current value as they kept increasing mortgage over the years. They are now hurtling towards 50 and struggling to pay whats needed to keep on track. they have a nice telly though.

it will sort itself out and all will be back to getting better in a couple of years

Yeah or that (y). I shouldn't snigger at other peoples miss fortune but they DESERVE IT!!.

a lot of it is greed, and eveyone else thinking that everyone else is doing great so we must keep up with them- little do they know they might be borrowed up to their eyeballs to.

Im happy to have my house, nice car (and **** car as well!) and use things till they break. My pc- 4 years old and made up of 2 pcs. My imac, 7 years old. My widescreen telly - 8 years old, my hifi, my VCR 11 years old, freeview box 8 years old, dvd recorder 6 years old. I also dont like paying money for anything, so always ask for some off. My mobile phone is free and half the price it should be a month, my landline and broadband have cost me £32 for a whole year as i use reccomend a friend offers. I have a good network of friends in various trades or know people, i get good work and costs are kept down

but i will have someone come round and say, your tellys a bit small (32" CRT) and old, not replacing it? well no, it still works, and when it breaks i will buy another. (or if in the financial turd of losing a job, use the spare 28" 4.3 in the spare room!)
