General High mile Panda 100HP?

I've have a quick search but couldn't find anything recent.

Looking at getting a 100HP and there's a few about with higher miles on, 100k or so. Now my past cars have all had some miles on them, FSH to back it up but they've never missed a beat. Am I to expect the same with a Panda? Or will I be looking at major engine surgery soon after buying?

Anyone got one with high miles? How's it holding up?

There have been a few and no one has reported any serious issues, I think the 100hp can take the miles if its looked after properly just like any other car.

Sounds good, I have got into a habit of buying well looked after high mile cars (Fabia vRS 160k, Octavia vRS 170k) and its served me well so far! Granted I've spent a few quid on consumables and things like suspension etc but I was always going to be getting coilovers on them anyway so it wasnt really an issue. Same with the Panda, I've not looked yet but a decent set of coilovers will be fitted I expect, I cant resist a few tweaks

Mine has trickled over 199000, i have a photo on my other phone and is still driving like a dream.

As long as it is looked after there is no reason why a 200k can drive and look as good as a 30k car.

The only difference in maintenance on my car and a low mileage car is oil usage. I have to top up every thousand miles or so.

Having run a 20vt for 7 years topping up the oil is second nature .

Don't worry about oil usage, apparently they all consume and it seems normal if you drive them hard.

Yes, I also have to top up every 1,000 miles or so and that's on a 45k mile car.

Purely out of interest, how comes they use so much oil? My previous Fiat had the 60bhp 1.2 8v, and it never used a drop of oil, the same with my current 77bhp 1.4 8v.

No idea! My dad's 1.2 4x4 doesn't burn any either.

Initially I suspected the first lady owner of mine glazed its piston rings by being too soft on it during run-in but after speaking with a few owners they seem to have this too so I have concluded it's a 'feature' of the car

Does that mean it would be the same for the 1.4 16v 'Starjet' 500s, Grande Puntos and Bravos?

Possibly, but better asking their owners in the particular subsection of the forum.

I've found that most people on here wouldn't talk about oil consumption unless I brought the subject up first. Possibly everyone worries they have a 'duff' car

I see! It was purely out of idle curiosity really. Like I say, I have the basic old 1.4 8v, lol!

I don't mind... mine uses hardly any unless I do a lot of motorway work and then it uses a bit more, i'd say I probably put about a mug full a month in between services and its been like that while I've had it.

I do lots of motorway miles (around 160 a day), the weird thing is when I gave it to my wife to commute most of the week (she also does motorway mileage) it hardly used any!

It seems to be 16v thing, none of our 8v Fiats have used oil but our 16v have, as did our high mileage 16v Toyota. Nothing to worry about imo.

Mileage isn't really an issue with the FIRE to SuperFIRE engine if well maintained. Our Stilo (same engine as the 100HP) was still going strong back in Jan when we sold it with 145k on the clock

I've done just over 6k and i'll be putting its 2nd litre in shortly. Actually it's due a service soon, so it'll all be fresh.

I've been lucky with my past cars, both although doing mega miles used zero oil. My motorcycle seems to like a drink though so I'm in the habit of checking now.
