Hi all, I intend to import from Japan a Panda Climbing. I wonder if the 1.2 engine is somewhat related to something from the Chrysler group or solely a FIAT engine. The timing belt change will be due soon. In Canada, FIAT is only selling the latest gen 500. Will I have to go to a FIAT dealer or an independent garage for the TB replacement? A friend supplied the parts and changed the timing belt of her Fiat Barchetta at an expensive Maserati dealer. Cheers,

Welcome to the forum. The 1.2 60HP is a straight forward engine that I think does not relate to anything Chrysler. Any decent mechanic should be able to do the belt for you, The 69HP engine is more taxing so you are in luck. Post some photos when you have done the necessary 5 posts, I would love to see this well travelled machine.

Hi, 🙂

The OLD 60 hp FIRE engine is PURE FIAT. Been around since 1984

The latter 69 output used VVT and complexity trebled.. 😏

However FORD used that in tiny cars..
KA model - all built in Poland alongside 500 and Panda 😉

So you May have better luck finding a mech nic with Data.. Even if never actually worked on one 🤔

Don't change the belt until you have it running 100% for a bit, if possible

If there's a slight problem, you will not know if it was caused by the belt change or something previous

There 3 different timing methods depending on year

None are difficult, but all are easy to mess up

Any descent mechanic shouldn't have any problems

Last time I did a VVT (without water pump) it was done in around 1/2 hour, but I had done one only a few weeks before

Depends which 60hp

Evo2 engines with the round oil filler are near enough identical to the 69hp locking both locked by the same tools
