Hello all. About to get into a ding dong over on Facebook about me being 'silly' wanting to carry a spare timing belt.
So joined here to confirm my mechanical knowledge and moral support! 🙂
I live full-time in my Fiat Ducato 2.5D 1992 LHD with Hymer B534 habitation.

Having one ready in preparation for a planned routine replacement is a good idea 👍, but it's not gonna help as a replacement if the original gives up suddenly 😵

Why would it not help having a replacement if the original one gives up 🤔 ....because I'd obviously need a replacement if that happens, I'm confused 😕

Because timing belt failure usually causes catastropic valve/valve gear damage

Depends on the engine design, some fail-safe, most cause a lot of damage needing a head rebuild at the least.

Yes, I know all that. I've a non-interference engine. In the simplest way I can explain... I'll have the spare belt, and water pump, so the garage won't need to order these parts. (For example, I'm currently in Morocco and live full-time in my van. Should the belt have failed over here, it would be a nightmare to source!!)

Well , based on that response, it's a good idea you've got one on board, for the small space the bits take up I would too, and a handful of other bits , maybe a hose or two and a 'stat(y);)

Thank you Zap 🙏 I already have starter motor, alternator and water pump, so a timing belt to add. I was going to buy the one replaced at a Fiat dealership in Castellon in 2023, but on double checking the one they put on the invoice (very expensive one) Autodoc says it's not the right one for my van 😕🤔. So I feel they probably entered a higher priced one than what they actually fitted, and shafted me!
