Technical Help. Engine died.

The car started first time this morning.

However I can hear an unusual rattling coming from the underside of the car. It doesn't sound internal to the engine. Its too wet to get the car on stands at the moment, so i'll wait for now.

I'm hoping some dodgy DIY mechanic didn't tighten up the starter motor properly a few months ago :)

The rattle is the exhaust...i knew it was blowing a bit, but when i took a look I could see condensation/steam coming through the flexi pipe. I have a spare exhaust sat in the back yard, so I can put that on. I've still not done the exhaust gasket on my EVO, this will have to take priority now - I don't want the exhaust falling off.

The car is starting just fine, the starter motor isn't loose...I will wedge a bit of wood in the battery compartment to stop any movement, unless someone has a better solution?

I bid on a car at auction earlier today, i didn't get it, but could do with something more modern that doesn't require so much maintenance... :)

Unless you’ve got a healthy budget and you’re going quite new i’d still be banking on the maintenance, especially if it’s got a Fiat badge on it! 😆

I've heard the one about hitting the starter motor with a hammer! The thought does amuse me, so too hitting any number of components to make them work again...Hitting the windows with a hammer to make them go up and down again. Hitting the sump to sump to stop it leaking etc. lol Its the perfect repost to a car that seems to break down as much as it drives lol
There's something to be said about this technique. Back in the day whenever our TV picture was sketchy my father would thud the top of the set with his fist. Worked like a charm every time. That TV lasted 16 years, which is more than can be said about some Grande Puntos.

There will be one less left in the world if mine gives me any more trouble.

lol. I know that thought!

Did you manage to resolve your issue?

I did. There's a backlog of small jobs but nothing urgent. I need to change the plugs, clean the MAP.

The car could do with a wash, but hey its cold out there, ya know? :D
