My 2007 1.3 Diesel has had the sump replaced. Looks like new with obvious oozing of the sealant.

Mind you the oil leak from the turbo is probably keeping it well protected. :D

Probably Dave..
As the 16v puntos were alloy..

so is my TA (hence before 2012..)
I had forgotten Diesels had steel pans too.

The point being there are nearer 20 ..than 2 million steel pans out there doing fine.

Ive had great ones..and Ive had rotten ones ( the condition of the sills being very close to that of the sump)

Climatic conditions play a big part..
Weve all seen the coastal failures of Oil Filters.. rusted through.

Had the car had a under tray I'd bet the sump would last longer?

Had Fiat used a heavier grade of steel, or given it a decent anti corrosion coating, I'd bet the sump would last longer.

The solution, for DIY owners, is simple. Each time you change the oil, get out a rag and wipe some of the used engine oil all over the sump. If you do this every oil change from new, it'll last the life of the car.
