General Halfords Rain Repellent

A word of caution for anyone thinking of spending £5.99 on the Halfords Rainex equivalent – DON’T!!

I had to buy the Halfords equivalent when my local Halfords store ran out of ‘pucca’ Rainex. I spent about 4 hours yesterday polishing, waxing and detailing my car and left the windows until last.

I applied the Halfords rain repellent as directed on the bottle, worked it into a mist and then tried to polish it off the screen – at this point Rainex usually leaves a sparkly smear free screen – not the Halfords equivalent .

I tired to remove the greasy rainbow sheen left on the screen for about an hour using all sorts of cleaning solutions, this bloody stuff will not clean off!

My advice is if Halfords runs out of Rainex don't be tempted to buy their stuff - use your windscreen wipers until its back in stock!!

Halfords is Cr*p! ....it really has to be the worst most expensive uneducated store in the universe! Stuff with their own brand on is just a joke, a total waste of money and a wasted journey to that pathetic store! .... I'd say don't go there at all for anything, unless you really really have no alternative!

I honestly think the Halfords Rain Repellent is quite good It shouldn't leave a 'rainbow effect' and hasn't when I've used it. Are you sure the cloth didn't have anything else on it or the windscreen was totally clear?

Hi,

Windscreen was totally clean - I had washed it with sponge and dried it then cleaned it with Rainex windscreen cutter before applying the Halfords stuff. It just created a greasy sheen that I was totally unable to remove, still on there now and no matter how hard I try to get the s**t off it will not budge!

Since the posting a number of people have pointed me in the direction of PIAA silicone wipers, apparently these things apply a thin layer of silicone on the window when first used........expensive but I will give them a go.

Jiff may get it off. I had a similar experience some years ago with a Citroen.

Try washing the screen again with washing up liquid and newspaper dry it

Daily driver!!!!! - I have found that if you drive slightly over 70 then the rain bounces right off the window and over your head!!! (do look a bit of a ***ker with the roof down in the rain though).......

Can't agree more, just back from a 120 mile round trip to pickup some new discs and shoes from the father in law (works for an autofactors!!). What a fantastic evening for a blast with the hood down :slayer: - M3 - M25 - A24 (stop at Box Hill for a coffee) then down to Worthing - back on the A283 through the Sussex/Surrey countryside at dusk.........fab!!

And hi to the yellow B I passed in near Petworth..........
