Panda (Classic) Grumbleweed

Introduction

been stubbornly refusing to stir outside the panda section for a long while but put a fair bit of time into tidying the old lad up this summer so thought I'd stick some photos together to show the state of play just now.
So for those of you who aren't al ready au fait, this is Grumbleweed, a 1990 Panda Sergio Tacchini with a mix of scrapyard warrior mods and fresh bits:

look! even found some scenery to take some pics:)

Highlights include the new mk2 golf splitter and chavtastic blue lensed driving lamps (they were reduced OK) in the front bumper, Momo steering wheel, aftermarket gearknob on shortened gearstick, 40mm drop on new standard shocks, mystery retro pepperpot wheels (anybody any idea? came off a Tipo in a scrappy) converted to Uno electronic dizzy, K&N panel filter in standard airbox with shortened intake, Powerflow stainless exhaust rear section with Y10 standard front section, array of extra instrumentation (tacho, oil pressure and volts) and assorted other bits and bobs dotted around that my father in law (the previous owner) fitted and I just find out about when new stuff I buy mysteriously doesn't fit:confused:
Andrew.
OK, coolant and petrol are now staying put, not sure about the gearbox oil yet. It was weeping out around the speedo cable and the rubber seal in the end of the cable had disintegrated. I've used a fibre washer to try and seal it as I don't appear to have a suitable rubber in my stores so I'll see how it goes. If it does still leak it's not the end of the world, the oil's unlikely to empty itself out of the top eh.
Then I mostly spent a happy hour cleaning round the wiring behind the nearside headlight while the washer bottle's still out(y)

All back together for now, horn & screenwash back in today, might even be daring and drive him somewhere tomorrow! Maybe take some more pics. Got a spare engine mount for the other side in primer now too so he's not together for long!

Good work (y) What happened to its original box before it got its Y10 one?
That'll be the one that just went back in.. Father in law built it back up at the time and he was doing a lot of long runs up to the top of Scotland and back so wanted the longer gearing on the Y10 box for economy and motorway running.

OK this is what the gearbox end of the underbonnet looks like now, look at those shiny new bits of gear linkage peeping out the bottom!:D (The washer bottle's not actually illuminated, that's just how the picture's come out) Taken it for about 20 miles worth of shakedown today and the gearchange is pretty stiff so I'm hoping that frees off a bit with use, and it's like a proper Panda box now, shorter more exciteable gearing and no discernible synchro in 3rd...doh:doh: Father in law says after we got it back in "oh yes the synchro was pretty weak in one gear I remember now" Well it's staying put now so crunchy 3rd it is.

 ...now, I'd need to be driving the old fella to answer that wouldn't I. Still haven't quite cured the gearbox oil leak yet (anyone know where the breather is on the gearbox?) and I'm working full time for the first time in months so I'm not quite getting round to anything at the moment. Needs a decent run I reckon, linkage is stiff and it's a bit noisy but as I said the gearbox hadn't turned a cog in anger in 15 years and several bits of the linkage are new.
..... so obviously I'm now spending my time dismantling, painting and reassembling my spare front struts to go back on. Too easily distracted. Aiming to have it all ready and running for the Show Formerly Known as St Andrews next year. Well, more or less ready anyway. Well, driveable.
