Hi.
I've been a true Marea fan the last 4 years, but now i need a smaller car with a higher MPG.
The Grande Punto 1,3 JTD Multijet seems like a good choice.
Can you guyes tell me a bit about the good and bad (if there is any) sides of the car?

Michael

lol if its diesel you want then why not get the 1.9 m-jet

Because of the insane high taxes on cars in Denmark.
You have to add 180% to the car price in tax!
A 1.9JTD is around 26.000£ + delivery costs, and that's without any extra equipment at all...

I think i'll take some test drives...

What's the real difference between the 75HP and 90HP 1.3 JTD engines?, is it only ECU programming or are there some hardware differences?

Intercooler iirc. I've got the 75bhp one and its slow as hell off the line, but not too bad once moving in. Personally wouldnt buy another one because I got one built last thing on a friday...

I've been running a 1.3MJ 90 for about 18 months now and overall the car is good the turbo lag is much worse on the 90 than the 75 but you learn to drive around it and the economy comes nowhere near to fiats claims (maybe as a result of driving around the turbo lag) I ran a 307 2.0 HDI 110 before and the economy was about the same. I get 45mpgish general running around and into the 50's on a run.

The engine though is truly amazing once on boost and if you have the six speed box you can really keep it in the fun zone but it takes effort to drive it like that all the time. Mine was an early one so had quite a few teething probs but i'm sure these will be sorted by now

The difference is the turbo. It gives you 22% more HP and 5% extra torque. It slightly reduces your fuel economy, reduces the time spent from 0-62 mph with 1.7 sek and increases your topspeed with 6 mph which could be useful at Isle of Man and the German autobahn. In Denmark the price difference at the same level of trim is 23,500 DKK (3,200 EUR).

Expect 7 weeks of delivery. I ordered mine (obviously the 75 HP variant) the last weekend of October, and the dealer just confirmed that I will get it before Christmas.

Hiya!

I came from a 1.8 Marea to a New 75 Dynamic (with Blue & Me)

Marea was real quick and apart from general service bits and bobs I have had no bother in the 3 years (70,000miles) so was a reluctant step to change. The Marea really changed my opinion on Fiats as a whole!!!

Tried allsorts, Citroen C3, Cleo, Corsa and went for the 1.3 75 for economy, practicality and value for money!
Had it a few months now and done quite a few miles! VERY pleased with the car, It does suffer from turbo lag but I soon got accustomed to its ways and it doesn’t bother me at all now. Its more than capable on country lanes and Motorways! If you want a fast sporty GP then go for the sporting. If not go for the 75. Insurance and Road tax are REAL cheap!!!

Every car you look at has its good and bad points, people will tell you nightmare stories about every manufacturer! Best suggestion is to try everything before you buy and squeeze the best deal you can out of the dealer!!!

Migaard,

Not sure about Denmark but I don't think you can buy the 1.3 90hp version new as they've discontinued it...and for good reason. I used to own one before changing it for a 1.9 Sporting and, because it was a Grande Punto, it was overall a great car. BUT the turbo lag was absolutely ridiculous. There were often some 'butt-clenching' moments especially when accelerating out of a very busy roundabout and then finding yourself at a near stand still in the middle with an enormous lorry coming at you!!?

I once drove the 75hp version which was a courtesy car and although a little slower it felt as though the power was delivered reliably and was a smoother drive.

Hey!
Im learning on the Grande Punto 1.3 turbo diesel...Yeah what the other guys are saying is very true! turbo lag is terrible :s...It's got a very long clutch and has very limited acceleration especially on first gear! only around 1.2 secs before the engine starts revving annoyingly! The same 1.3 but as petrol is probably a wiser choice..but i suggest a slightly bigger engine for that car! Also, indicator swtiches are a bit of a pain! they dont always turn off when u switch em on! lol But otherwise, great looking car and the 1.3turbo diesel comes with great set of rims and Pioneer stereo! well, at least in Malta it does ;)

One other strange thing...one of the bearings of the steering is broken/came loose...so that makes an annoying rattle..its gona be fixed but is still silly to have gone after only 12 months of use

Thanks for all your replies.
The 90bhp is still for sale in Denmark.
I went for a test drive in the 1.3 m-jet 75bhp and i agree regarding the turbo-lag, otherwise it was a pleasent drive, nice car.
BUT it will take some time to adjust from my Marea, i really like that car, fresh and smooth driving... but it's expensive in fuel...
Let's see what happens.

I guess with regard to turbo lag, you soon learn to put your foot down slightly before you want to go... bringing up the boost so when you drop the clutch off you go..

Bit like the division 1 rallycross cars. They take around 5 seconds to build up full boost - read huge turbo!

you very quickly adjust to the turbo lag on then 75bhp version.

If you drive mostly out of town I would recomend the starjet. I drove both the 1.3 mjet and the starjet when i was choosing my GP and the starjet is much more faster and can hold its own agains much bigger cars on the freeway especially when you are alone in the car. It's consumtion is maybe a little higher than that of the multijet but it is still has a remarcably low consumtion especially when you are driving out of town. In Bulgaria the multijet is 1500 euro cheaper and when you calculate that the mjet's consumption is 1l/100 km lower it turnes out that you will begin saving money after 75 000 km. So i would advise you to go for the multijet it is a much faster car with a little higher consumption which also has better handling because the petrol engine is over a 100 kg lighter than the diesel. The starjet hos virually no understeer even when you exit a tight bent on full throttle at 4000 rpm at 4th gear. I also remembered that the because the ratios beteween 4th and 5th gear are a little on the mjet are a bit apart it is a bit hard to avoid the turbo lag when accelerating.

hiya,

i have the 90 version with the 5 speed, later edition - helped with the short changes or whatever, maybe just to cost-cut but i'm not worried; it's a fun little car to drive. I went from the 1.2 punto mk2 and immediately noticed the turbo lag but i hardly notice it now, you just adjust the way you drive i guess. I pull away from roundabouts/junctions/lights without problems and it's much faster than the 1.2 petrol. As others have mentioned, when on boost it's a good lot of fun, and after driving the GP sporting (a car which is definitely faster) you do notice it's lighter front end and more refined tone, it's more.... scooty i think, and is weirdly quiet in comparison to other diesels (1.9 owners don't shout at me :p).

I'd be interested in a re-map but only in the future but i don't have the need for it; it's plenty quick enough for me.

there we go - there is my opinion:)

P.S. oh and i'm getting 55mpg+ on 8mile trips to work and around 60mpg on route to Blackpool 275miles away at 70ish on motorway using posh diesel :D

Think of getting a 1.3 jtd 90multijet with dualogic anyone driven one or own one? is it an advantage as far as turbo lag goes?
The main reason to buy an auto is that the wife and daughter only can drive automatics.
kris

i might be completely wrong, but isnt the dualougic a semi-auto, in that you can have it in fully auto mode or semi-auto mode? if thats the case i always thought people with auto only licenses couldnt drive them?
