Technical 1.3 Multijet heater longtime to warm up issue??

I love coffee, but its just a treat. My teeth are mostly metal these days....so i'd like to avoid being a resident at the dentist :D
One of my sisters has the same issue, I keep telling her every time she walks, in the dentist books another holiday.
Strange, she is younger than me and I am the one who always crunches up hard sweets etc. Also my favourite treat is a large bowl of strawberry ice cream with clotted cream, golden syrup and maple syrup poured over it.:)

I had two fillings on Friday, and have another two fillings next week.

Its the liquids that really rot the teeth, sugary coffee or tea, or wine/alcohol. Sweets are fine as long as regular tooth brushing occurs.

Nowadays I only drink herbal tea, i used to have super strong coffee because I was stuck on the caffeine, and to counter the taste had loads of sugar. I miss the caffeine, buzzing around all day was fun :D

I do go through firm toothbrushes, roughly two a week before they start to bend, dentist on check ups tries to get me to use electric, but he admits apart from the pressure on the gums teeth not bad for 71 so unlikely to change my habits. Or the red wine and black filter coffee.:)

I once had a dentist compliment me. He said in a perfectly earnest way "I've never seen someone with so many fillings and all their teeth" :D

My Grande Punto 1.3 75bhp 2007 177,000 miles, I have noticed the heater matrix takes a while to warm up for example the 20-minute journey feels warm, not hot when putting the max temp knob, I used a laser temperature gauge reading 37c for each venting flap.

Recently service new coolant was flushed after the thermostat failed, I tried to bleed the valve no air inside, I held the matrix pipes in and out and felt very warm rather than hot burning my hands.

What is the issue?
I've just tested my Grande Punto. It got up to 45 degrees C after 10 minutes and topped out at 50 C.

I think you should double check the temperature of the air coming out of the vent with a digital thermometer. I don't think your laser one is going to be accurate, it just doesn't strike me as the tool for the job, although i could be wrong. I taped my digital thermometer to the vent and was sure not to cover the sensor, with the air blowing directly at that sensor.

Just went and collected daughters from station, temp reading fraction under 90 Degrees on gauge, heater working fine.

OP is likely measuring the temperature of the plastic vent, rather than the air, with his laser temperature gauge.

The gym was ok, my knee has been sore for a few weeks, so I was lucky to do a little jogging without any pain.

My old thermostat was stuck open all cold water in. After fitted the new one, it seemed not very hot, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like for Fiat 1.3.

20 minutes isn't long..

My GP mj does 2 hour trips.. I need to cool cabin after an hour..

But initial warming takes a while

Next question.: what does the temp gauge do? 🤔

Nothing for 5 minutes then a gradual climb to Halfway..

That's not too far from normal

The 1.3 Multijet engine runs incredibly cool compared to some other engines.

My old Mk2b Punto would in very cold weather struggle to keep the engine temperature up. They are so cool that on one occasion in very cold -4'C weather, I had a massive coolant leak, lost all the engine coolant and was still able to drive it 20 miles to the garage with no ill effects.

So it might just be the cold temperature we are having which means it is talking it longer to warm up.

Generally on Fiats, with the thermostat closed and the engine cold, the coolant will flow through the engine and through the cabin filter, which means if you blast "warm" air out of the vents, the heat exchanger in the car acts like a radiator and keeps the engine colder for longer.

Next time you go for a drive out, as an experiment, keep the fan speed in the cabin very low, or turn it off completely, and you may find the car warms up much quicker.

Once the thermostat opens the coolant is then flowing into the radiator, but on very cold days it is possible with this engine that the thermostat won't open at all, especially if you are running the heating on full blast.

If you have issues with the windscreen misting then just run the aircon to dry the air and clear away the condensation.(assuming the car probably does have aircon?)

I've noticed that outside temperature effect with my EVO but not my GP.

The GP will show the engine temperature gauge at 1/2 way continually when the engine has heated up. However the EVO temperature gauge will vary, in winter its more likely to run at 1/4 of the gauge than 1/2 way.

The EVO heater does run warm rather than hot though. I intend to measure the exact temperature coming out of the vent tomorrow. It possibly has a thermostat issue, i'm not sure i'll do anything about it though as the car heats up to a good enough temperature, albeit slowly.

I believe my car's coolant temperature is normal. There is nothing else wrong with the engine. It is just warming up weirdly slow for a small engine. I remember my old 2.0HDI 306 warming up quickly in less than 10 minutes. Thanks for suggest.
