Hi Guys,

Just joined this site and am hopping for some help on this one. I have been building and playing with cars, trucks, vans, tanks, etc for most of my life however this one has me stumped so I thought I would give this site a bash!

so the problem started some weeks back on my daughters Fiat 500 Lounge, it started to jump out of gear and then had to be switched off and on again to re engage the gear.
Having had a look I found the oil level very low in the top up tank. I toped this up and drove the car all went well till I got home and found the oil was leaking from around the gear position senser, with this and the condition of the oil I decided to remove the tank and give it a clean at the same time I replaced the position senser as it was covered in oil and the O rings had past there best.

the problem is now that when the engine is started and the gear engaged I'm only getting 2nd gear? rev is in the wrong place and N is where R should be and I cant get 1st gear very strange so any help would be great. I'm guessing it could be the senser it self that is at fault but I'm just not shore?

The dedicated duologic thread has a mountain of info regarding the many many woes hundreds of owners have experienced with this IMO hopeless design of gearbox so your bound to find something similar to your issues!
Id do two things
A) fix it if you can!
B) then sell it as soon as possible( if you have yo have a small automatic then get a jap one I recommend the Honda Jazz!)

What ever happens your best shot of it! IMHO more trouble than there worth! pile of:poop:

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If you want to get some idea of the issues that can arise with vehicles fitted with dualogic transmissions, read this thread. Even just checking the selespeed fluid level is supposed to only be done after running diagnostic software, and if there's any obvious signs of a selespeed fluid leak, there's unlikely to be a simple fix.

The one positive thing I can say is that there is a well-respected independent garage near to you (well, not that far away) if you want a professional opinion on whether it can be cost-effectively fixed. Take a look at the small car services website; it might be worth giving them a call.

Is this by any chance an older car (>5yrs) that you've recently purchased? It's not unknown for folks with cars fitted with these transmissions to sell them if they suspect trouble is on the way...

@Rave Dave there's just been a new post on the DuaLogic repair thread. Fixed by removing, cleaning the unit and replacing all seals:
There have been a few cases now where seals deteriorate with age and fail to hold hydraulic pressure.
