2002 was the changeover year between x230 and x244 models. To confirm which you have check the VIN which will start with either ZFA230........, or ZFA244........ Alternatively the x230 has reverse gear below 5th, while on the x244 it is next to 1st.

My 2006 x244 also has unused connectors under the instrument binnacle.

So an x244 model. On this model the speedometer, and presumably the odometer, are supplied via F11 in the engine bay fusebox. The supply to fuel level gauge is more of a guess.

The usual reason for F11 blowing, is failure of the oil vapour heater, which is intended to stop ice crystals forming in the blow by gases when external temperatures are low. In the UK climate the heater is probably unnecessary, and may be unplugged. See attached photo for location on my 2.8jtd, which was taken from underneath the vehicle.

Sorry I’m a bit confused. The main issue I have is that temperature gauge and speedometer is working fine. But mileage isnt going up and the fuel gage once engine turns on stays at full- had a new fuel pump and fuel sensor in the fuel tank. Would buying a full new clock system fix this problem?

I think that perhaps this old man forgot to press the "Send reply" button, or somthing else went wrong yesterday evening, as this morning I have three unsent attachments with no text. I will try again.

The fact that the speedometer is OK, but the odometer is not advancing does suggest an instrument panel fault, as the same pulse train is used by both. There is a company called "Cartronix" who can repair instrument panels, so perhaps no need to replace.

The fuel gauge reading full scale could be due to a wiring fault. If I remember correctly full scale is the response to an open circuit sensor. I have in mind a maximum sensor resistance of 300 Ohms, but I cannot remember the source of this figure. It should be possible to check for this, or lower resistance with a multimeter from the instrument panel connections D13 & D14.

Do not fire the parts cannon, and replace the panel before proving that it is faulty.

By way of illustration, on my 2006 x244, I recently had the engine temperature showing normal with a cold engine. I bought a replacement sensor, and prepared to install it. New sensor tested OK with temporary connection, but then reconnected old sensor, which then behaved correctly. So connections cleaned and spare sensor now on shelf.
