Firstly - THANKS to all who helped save my car from all sorts of trouble after I stupidly plugged my new stereo straight in without a second thought!!!!

Now I know there are threads on this subject already, (I have read them all) but I just wondered if someone could feast their eyes on MY wiring looms, and just confirm that I do or don't need to piggy back a 'switched live' from the cig lighter....because from what I have read, some people have done, and others have not needed to. In the pictures you will hopefully see the cars own wiring loom, and then the iso lead that came with the stereo, and then another iso lead that I purchased on Ebay (which I believed was a converter of some kind)

I am not technically minded in the slightest, so please bare that in mind ;) I just need to know my next step. :)

:) it's a 2004 53 plate Dynamic 1.2 8valve - what are your thoughts??

You will be a canbus punto

There are 2 thin wires Pink/black + pink/white IIRC
DO NOT - I REPEAT DO NOT CONNECT THESE TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN A FIAT STEREO!

Do not use this as a 12v ignition feed either, as its not a 12v power feed, its a 12v DATA LINE

Piggyback fuse from the cig fuse is my route when i refit

Thanks Ziggy,

SO.... the two thin wires you're talking about (pink&black/pink&white) are these the one's in the FIATS wiring loom?
You're saying these need disconnecting, and then ADD a piggy back fuse to the Fiats loom from the cigarette fuse?

Once that's done...i can plug in my adapter and plug in my new stereo?

I won't be doing this myself because I can barely undo the petrol cap, never mind anything else, but if I take this to my local mechanic, I presume he'll know what to do, right?? it must be a common thing?

Hi mate,

Your probably best off printing off the guide (theres a printer icon at the top right of the guide) and maybe this thread and giving it to your mechanic.

Only those that are in the know about this particular issue will know how to get around it, and depending on what type of cars they normally work on, so I wouldn't guarantee that he will know this information.

Make sure you give him the full story though, ie about the EPS and EML lights illuminating when you plugged it in yourself so that he understands the issue.

Shouldn't take him long though (y)

Yes, I think you are right - I have already printed off the guide, so i'll print off any other info i'm missing and give it all to a professional ;)

Thanks Alan :)

I cant see why you are having such problems over a simple task, also why have you got 2 adapter leads ?. you only need one and the small plugs you pulled out of the radio you just push back in the dash, then plug the big adapter on to the existing wiring and the other end into your radio, only thing you might have to change over is the feed links that swap over ign feed and live feed,
where were you putting the other lead ( the one on the left in the picture )

The Op's plug is a canbus'd plug

There is 1 Postivie perminant
1 ground
1 Grey Remote wire
And 1 of the 2 canbus wires showing (pink one)

meaning he has NO ignition feed, which is where his problem is
Alot of people use the Canbus feed's - and it confuses the hell out of the car...

So he'll need to piggyback fuse off the cig socket fuse :)

haha... is it a simple task though? :bang:

One set of leads came with the new stereo, the other set (left in the picture) I bought off Ebay because I thought I might need it (it's an iso adapter for a Fiat Punto, turns out I probably don't)

But the reason i'm having the trouble is because when I first plugged it all in, I sent the body computer mad, knocking out the power steering and engine management light came on....

Now i'm being told I need to remove live wires, build a piggy back fuse from the cig lighter by using a soldering iron etc etc... so it's not really THAT simple! not for the general novice anyway :p

the radio he has bought has canbus remote control facilities
