Hi I think I might be the only person in Australia that really likes the Fiat Regata. They were sold here as well as the Croma and then Fiat dissapeard in Australia. Now they are back all is ok for now but many Fiat fans in Australia dont really like the Regata. Why is that? I know its just an 80s car but I love them...Ideas?

its just abit old and dry, cars of that age have alot of rust problems and if you get one it will be very old and warn and may need alot of work and in my veiw it doesnt look too sexy

in the UK maybe but not in australia they wont

My dad had a Regata Weekend (estate) in the 80s. It was a year old when he got it and he loved it to bits in the few years he owned it.

Don't worry, you are not the only person in Australia that likes them.

I have just bought my fourth Regata that I have had in the last 15 years.

It is the very last of the line and pretty much the last of the Fiats sold in Australia when they were here before.

It is an 89 100Sie with the fuel injected 1.6 Twin Cam. It is totally original and unmodified. It has all its original documentation showing Perth delivery in 1989.

I have one or two small items to attend to before submitting it for a roadworthy inspection.

Rust has never been much of a problem on these and to be honest they don't deserve the crap reputation that they seem to have. Its no more or less of a Fiat than any other of the era and is certainly no better or worse!

Though I have to say that I have its reputation to thank for dictating the price I paid for it!

For $240.00 I don't think I can go too far wrong!

Wow, that seems quite the bargain! If you ever find another like that, let me know ;)

Welcome to the forum ORP283Y, where in the great southern land are you?

On topic, I know that there is a bloke in the FCCV who has been driving a Regata for the last 2.5 years, since his nuova 500 was written off. And I particularly like the 5 speed gearbox from them, as they fit in X1/9s :D

Well we had a Regata 70s for many years here in the UK. Great car and no real major problems.

A problem that did exist was the window runner/quarter light guides would rub the inside of the door skin exposing the steel leading to corrosion in this area. Once you know what the problem is then it is a very easy fix for long term results.

Another great point of the Regata is the parts base. Strada / Regata thus making all but trim and panels interchangeable.

Great car. One of Fiat's great booted/trunked models.

I had the 85S (1498cc) Auto in the late 80s - & loved it too.

Let it go to someone in the family & changed to the Honda engined Rover 213. But went back to FIAT afterwards & stayed to present day.

I recall mpg wasn't too good.

Hi
I also have a 100SIE bought off Ebay for $1500.00,one owner with every reciept for every dollar spent.Have been lucky to find a guy in Tas wrecking one and now have a bowls bag full of hoses clutch cables and all other small things that may let you down.Iam a member of a social car club here in Forester NSW and members often are amazed at the way it goes.Yes the brake warning light comes on,comon falt.

I drive two regatas, one is 1986 mk1 diesel, slow but cheap to drive, fuel consumption is low, good soundproofing, biiiggg boot, comfortable suspension. The other one is petrol 2.0 16v 1988 mk2 with some sporty attitude and mods like ritmo abarth progressive springs, bigger brakes etc.Nice and quite fast ride thanks to 147hp engine, very good handling but less than average comfort{ abarth springs:( }If only you could find rustfree one it 'll be very nice driver-friendly car for years. :)

Greetings from Poland.
