Just wondering if anyone could help me, my windscreen wipers have packed in!
They were working on the highest setting for a while & juddering & sticking on other settings, now they have all stopped working & so has the back one & screen wash?
Does anyone have any ideas??
Thanks!

Isnt there a seperate motor for the back wiper though? Also would that stop the screen washers working?

I havent checked the fuse yet but i thought it wouldnt be this as they went gradually, if it was a fuse would they not all go at once?

Also the linkages, do i need to take the wipers off? Im not too sure what im checking for either?

Yes i am crap with cars ha!

Any advice welcomed though

You need to remove the wipers, then the plastic cover under the windscreen. You'll then be able to see the motor and linkages.

Unless the linkage is completely disconnected from the motor, it sounds like the motor is broken. New one is ~£65, from scrappy ~£25 and eBay ~£20

Cheers for that mate will give it a try, when ive took the wipers off is it just a straight swap with the other motor? Just plugs in?

Thanks

No, I'm afraid not. Once you are able to see the motor and linkages;

- There are 3 bolts securing the motor/linkages to the car.
- Undo these and lift out and turn over the motor/linkages (they are connected to the car by a wire now).
- Flip down the little plastic protective cover on the motor (where the cable connects to the motor).
- Unplug the wire and lift out the whole wiper assembly.
(You might be able to stop here if you went to a breakers and bought the whole motor/linkages, but if not, carry on)
- Remembering the position of the linkage and motor (take a photo!) undo the large nut in the middle of the linkage,
- Move the linkage arm bits out of the way and undo the 3 bolts attaching it to the linkage.

You now have the motor disconnected from everything! Just replace the net motor and repeat everything in reverse!

If it wasn't raining the last time I did mine I would have made a guide!

Cheers for that guide! But i have just been reading somewhere that there is also a rear wiper motor too, are they both likely to of gone at the same time? Is there a possibility it could be something else since nothing on that stalk is working? i.e relays?

It's most likely to be a fuse if they have all stopped working. My haynes manual is at home, but I can check which fuse it is when I get home (if someone else doesnt beat me to it!)

Cheers for that mate, I will get a new fuse today anyway and try it, but the only thing that makes me think it might not be that is that they started going gradually, like the first & second settings not working, now the lot

Your busted motor might have taken out the fuse when it broke if it shorted internally. Try turning on each thing in turn to find the problem (you might need a few fuses for problem solving!)

Thanks a lot mate, i have got the problem sorted, kind of! I have replaced the fuse now everything is back working as it was before, but the front windscreen wipers are still sticking on the 1st & 2nd setting, do you think this will be the motor?

It's most likely the motor, but could also be the linkages. If you could get a replacement motor and linkages from a scrapyards ~£25 then you could probably fix the problem altogether! :)

If your Punto is a mk1 55 or 60, install this and it will work as long as you can turn a key in the ignition barrel. The McKritch chip disables the immobiliser as well as giving you an improved engine map.
Not sure this was meant for this thread ;)

May as well hijack an existing thread, saves me cluttering the place up! My rear wiper's leaving a gap so obviously I need a new blade, however that's not the problem (although when I go to buy one, what do I need? Complete car n00b here.) but it's more the motor: when I go to use the water on it it gives me a dribble about an inch up the window. If I want the jet higher (it's been adjusted to point as high as it can go) would that involve a new motor? The wiper itself moves fine.

Wiper motor and washer motor are entirely seperate, so if the wiper works, good, leave it alone.

If its the weak washer thats bothering you, take the washer jet out, careful not to loose the pipe, then try the washer motor. If the jet from the pipe end is substantial, it could be a partially blocked jet.

Replace or blow out, whichever works.

If the jet is weak at the pipe, start to work yourself toward the motor, one connection at a time to find where the constriction is.

Cheers
