Technical Fiat Punto Grande Radio Change

Hi, I have just installed a Sony DSX-S300BTX to my Fiat Punto Grande 2006 fitted it fine with all the ISO blocks and relevent wiring got all the steering wheel controls and everything else to work apart from one thing, with the factory fitted one (a Blaupunkt) you could have the radio on without the ignition on and it would power itself off after about 30mins, I have wired the new one wth a live feed from the cigarette lighter (Red Wire) just wondering if there is any way to implement the Radio on without the ignition on and power off after a while just like the factory fitted one.

I believe that if you want that to happen you would have to have 2 constant live inputs as opposed to the constant live and ignition live. Would just meant that you would have to ensure that you take the faceplate off or turn the head unit off manually when you get out the car.

If the radio doesn't have that facility built-in, then, not without fitting your own timer. The alternative is to leave it on all the time, it will switch off when the car battery goes flat.

Thanks for your replies, The new radio does have a timer on it which you can set to 30mins, 60mins and so on also a removable front, do you know what colour wire and the best place to connect it to to get a constant live, I have it on the red wire on the cigarette lighter at the moment but that only powers on when the ignition is on.

could you not splice the original power wire so it has two ends and then plug them both into the headunit? as then you would have two constant lives? or does the original live go off with the ignition?

I did this in my mk2, i wired it 2 different ways... the 1st one, i had a switched live and constant live plugged into the appropriate pins, so it would go off with the ignition but you were able to turn it back on

2nd one i did was disconnected the switched live and "bridged" the permenant live across to where the switched live was, this ment i had to put it on and off manually...

if you would like help with either of these, i am more than willing to offer advice but cannot remember exactly how i did it now....

if you want it to be set permanently on then join the red and yellow wires together on the new radios iso connector(join with plugs if fitted or a scotchblock connector)
