Hello everyone.
I hope someone might be able to assist me with a front wiper motor problem that is driving me crazy!

Recenly the drain holes for the area under the dash locked with leaves and flooded the wiper motor. When I cleared the water away, cleaned and dried the motor - it still did not work with any power and made horrendous noise.

So I am trying for weveral weeks now to get a replacement wiper motor online. The problem I encounter is that all versions I can find online have only four electrical pins, whereas the motor version installed has five pins. The version below is the common type offered currently, but the original on my Panda has all five pins used for the wire harness

Anyone know if the four pin version will work or if anyone sells the original with five pins? Any help is so gratefully received

Thank you

I'm not about to drag my car apart, but can say what my Haynes manual shows.
The wiring diagram shows only four wires to the wiper motor, connecting to pins 1,2,3 & 5. That would match your pic. The Haynes diagram also shows a schematic of the inside of the motor, and I cannot see what a fifth wire would do.
The parts lookup shows one motor throughout the life of Panda, no changes.

Whilst your motor has 5 pins, does it have 5 wires?
Pin 1, Light blue wire, feeds the slow speed.
Pin 2, Black, is earth.
Pin 3, Brown w/Purple tracer, is the intermittent.
Pin 5, White w/Red tracer, is the high speed.

If you have a wire to pin 4, what colour is it?
When is it live?
Or does it provide an earth.

The 500 diagram, does seem to use 5 pins, although pin 4 is not conected to anything. I doubt someone has fitted a 500 motor to your car, as they appear to be oriented differently, and have different part numbers.

Thank you so much for the information - really appreciate your answe

Just before I saw your answer I found a five pin version which the site says is compatible and I ordered it. But I am concernbed now that it will be the worng one after I read your reply, Its a five pin version like the one on my car shown below

I hope I have not made a mistake ordering it - I will check the loom later and also update here when the mpotor arrives and I try to install it

Thanks again

Just had a quick look in my "known working" spare wiper motor pile and there are 2 with 5 pins and 2 with 4 pins.
Because they were tested and definitely working on the cars they came off, it suggests that Pandas only need 4 pins, but no idea why some have a full set of pins and some have a gap.
I have definitely fitted a 5 pin motor to a car which originally had a 4 pin motor, as its sitting in the driveway with the scuttle cover removed. And the wipers definitely work (both speeds, flick wipe and park).
(Probably done it the other way round too, but the car is not here to check.)

There's only been two part number for the wiper mechanism

From 2003 to 2012

One for left hand drive one for right

It not that common failure so there should be loads secondhand

TGE DM / TGE DM 1 12V

Is written on some motors depending on the manufacturer, there's a couple

The same number is some 500 and Ka so i suspect they share the same motors even if the linkage is different

Here a 500.

i have never tried fitting a 500 motor myself though

Are the motors the same manufacturer fiat has used a couple valeo, denso that I know of

They all should be interchange, five pins but some will only have 4 populated

But there's some listed online

As for the panda that obviously will not work, and are just listed incorrectly

Almost certainly more than one manufacturer, but not easy for me to check at the moment.
The ones I can see at the moment are a Denso, which has 5 pins and a Magneti Marelli which has 4 and a gap.
Both have worked in my 57 plate Multijet.

I really appreciate everyones help - this is a great resourse for Fiat ownwers!

I have ordered a five pin version and will update with how it works out

Once again Thank you all

Thank you all for helping.

The motor arrived, which was pictured with five connector pins on the website, but arrived with only four connector pins anyway!

It worked perfectly so I guess it confirms the fifth pin is not needed for the Panda.

Just glad to have the wipers back working again.

Best wishes to all
