Just a heads up to all of you out there with the usual Ducato 5th gear issue. My 2001 motorhome 5th gear went in France a few weeks ago. Found a decent garage in Derby called Capri Motors. £400 for a complete 5th gear rebuild kit. Plus 2.5 hours labour and £25 for oil. I know a lot of people are happy to carry on with only 4 gears, but having seen the amount of metal swarf in the bottom end of the box id recommend a minimum of a good flush and new oil asap

I know that I keep repeating this, but the fifth gear is drip lubricated. The advice that I try to follow, is not to use the fifth gear for the first mile after the vehicle has been standing for several days. This gives time for drips to be collected in the main box and dripped onto the fifth gear.
