Holy cow £63 big ones. I got some pressed ones for my coupe for £20 but still not put them on as I need to see if they are actually legal it said one the listing they were but I don't want to be getting fined so will have a trip to the local police office at some point

Make sure you fit them perfectly centered and positioned. wonky number plates are one of my buttons. Surprisingly brand new cars from dealers seem to be the worst.

Pressed plates are legal so long as they meet the requirements.. The thing with alot of pressed plates is that they are not reflective (or reflective enough to meet the standards. Excerpt below from DVLA leaflet INF104

The British Standard sets out the characteristics of the number plate. This includes visibility, strength and reflectivity. To meet the British Standard, each number plate must be permanently and legibly marked with the following information:
- The British Standard number (currently BS AU 145d)
- The name, trademark or other way of identifying the manufacturer or supplier
- The name and postcode of the supplying outlet

There is also rules on fonts and character size, and what you can and can't have as the symbol on the left hand side... I would say however, that generally speaking you can get away with alot when it comes to plates, I have run cars with abarth logos as the symbol on the left and fiat logos. I've had plates without any of the british standard marks on cars for years and never been pulled or failed an MOT with them. But I do know some people who have been pulled for them things and had on the spot fines (I think its a £50 fine they can give you for not legal plates and of course you will have to go get the car ok'd afterwards too)

So... all that means these uber expensive plates Carlos has bought aren't technically legal - however, i would no worry about sticking them on my car and driving about.

Chris they are fully legal, and both have British standards numbers

Maybe so but you have a fancy Fiat thing on the left and that isn't allowed - but like i say, you will be very unlucky if you ever getted pulled for it. My mum's punto has a fiat logo on the left and has done since she got it in 2007.

Here is the excerpt.

If you want to, you can display a GB national flag with the letters ‘GB’ on the far left of the number plate. The flags you can choose from are:
- the Union Jack
- St George’s cross
- The Scottish saltire
- The Red Dragon of Wales

The letters you can choose from are:
- Great Britain or GB
- United Kingdom or UK
- ENGLAND, England, ENG or Eng
- SCOTLAND, Scotland, SCO or Sco
- CYMRU, Cymru, CYM or Cym
- WALES or Wales
Although number plates displaying these national flags and letters would be legal when travelling outside the United Kingdom, they are not acceptable for identification purposes. To meet international requirements, when travelling outside the United Kingdom, the oval GB sticker would also need to be displayed (displaying the European
symbol removes the need for this sticker when you are travelling within Europe).

You are not allowed to display any other flag or symbol, and these requirements only apply to vehicles registered in England, Scotland and Wales. For vehicles registered in
Northern Ireland, the only symbol that can be displayed is the European logo.

I have had pressed plates on my stilo for a while now and numerous police cars have gone pasded or sat next to me at traffic lights and ive not got pulled. My previous car had them aswell for over a year and all was good aswell and it even passed its mot with them

yep there is nothing illegal about pressed plates.. there is even a sentence or paragraph in that document that says plates don't have to be flat, can't be bothered to go back again and find the bit, if anyone wants to look follow the link i posted before. As a general rule if your plates are the right colour and the font is correct you will be fine. I only go on about the rules cause there is a chance you may get pulled if your plates don't meat all the criteria - it only take a single jobs-worth police officer to decide they want to pull you and find something wrong with your car and you could end up getting fined and a slap on the wrist - not much more will come of it if it does happen, its just annoying basically.

I must admit I've seen far worse on cars that I know that have never been pulled for the plates. So yeah I suppose you must be very unlucky or the officer is having a very bad day

Lad that owned my old PuntoGT before me got pulled and fined for having abarth symbol on left - his plates were pretty much exactly same as my old seicento turbo plates and they were on the car from when i registered the car in 2009 (was imported from Jersey) until i sold it last year (it now has new private plates, the front of which is stick on type on bonnet and most of the time covered by a bonnet bra and so can't see it at all and he has never been pulled either lol).

Here's my sei plates; they had no british standard marks or any indication of manufacturer and abarth symbols.

Nope , a genuine one I painted
Those eBay ones a a waste of money
They split at the centre seam and the water leaks

well see how mine goes, its Original Birth branded one which i have found in general to be very well made stuff - as good as or better than genuine parts, although i never got an expansion tank from them. Did that one you bought have any branding on it, clearly looks the same but can't see any brands on the ebay listing you sent me.

having gone back and compared BOTH looks ,
I'm 50 / 50..

on another note;
I've got a pair of 155 front suspension units ( standard FIAT),
does anybody still use these or are better aftermarket options still readily avaialble..??

Well but if an update :

Bought a Coupe turbo rear subframe as mine has slight play in the swing arm bush and from previous experience it's a pig of a job on the car
So I refurbished this one with
New swingarm bearings, brakes, nuts and bolts, every thing that I could get hold of.
Also found it's had an Eibach rear ARB, so refurbed it while I was at it.

Also got bored with the stilo blades so I bought a mint set of 20vt with the CORRECT size tyres
