Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help on this.

I've just bought my wife a 1968 fiat 500F. All the records I have state this, plus it's very basic and shows all the signs of being an F. However, the front badge is a small rectangular version, and not the moustache type. When I look this up, it refers to a L model.

I'm aware it's been restored at some point, but did they replace the front panel, or am I missing something?.

I'd appreciate your comments please.

thanks

More than likely the wrong front panel has been fitted. I have just fitted an L panel to a late 500R because I prefer the look.

Although the front panel (amongst others) has almost certainly been replaced, the very late 500F was produced with the front badge that identifies the "L". What's more, even a good few years prior to that date a 500F could have been produced using an "L" panel at the factory. The later version of the plastic, winged badge would neatly cover the dimple pressed in for the "square" badge. My '69 F was like that unrestored and I've repaired the panel to keep it that way.

Thank you for the replies. So it could be orginal which is good to hear.

The car has no history with it apart from the import certificate from 2009, so it's hard to know what's been done to it and how original the rest of the car is. It's obviously had a respray, and I believe an engine replacement, but away from that, we know nothing unfortunately.
