The Fiat 500 Vintage '57 that honours the Made in Italy icon of 1957 is on show in Geneva with its contemporary interpretation of certain stylistic features that made it famous in the 60's and 70's. Starting with the colour of the pastel blue body that combines perfectly with the white of the roof, spoiler, antenna, mirror covers, as well as the 16" white chrome vintage alloy rims that recall the rims used on the historical 500.

I like the sentiment but It's more of a 'marketing' edition I wish they'd tried harder to create something with more of a link to the classic 500.

Agree completely, especially those wheels. Somehow I can't see them being durable in any climate where they salt the roads in winter.

Real retro would have painted steelies with 135/80x13 tyres, and a detuned 30HP TA engine .

If it were truly retro, you could probably strip about 200kg away from that.

The original Austin A30 came in at 685kg, and with a 28HP engine could, if driven very hard, do 0-60 in around 45 secs.

But I'd agree with sweetsixteen - drum brakes all round, hydraulic brakes only on the front wheels & seats stuffed with horsehair is not for me the kind of thing I'd want to be driving regularly.

Total thread drift, but what would you say was the earliest car you'd want as your daily driver?

Now we're talking. To be honest with you I wasborn in 1988 so wouldn't be much help regarding retro cars. The first car I remember was my moms 1987 mk2 golf automatic. Now that was a tank! No power steering so it was fun watching my mom wrestle that car park
Don't recall it breaking down either. My fiat 500 has broken down 6 times in 4 years

I would have thought the primary 'inspiration' for the new model would have been the USA 1957 edition that appeared around the end of 2013.

Similar vintage theme, agreed. Far less easy on the eye though. The modern Beetle incarnations have never appealed to me.

Agree, but preferably not that hideous oversized UConnect infotainment unit that has been so carefully and beautifully integrated into the dash panel by the designers of the forthcoming 500 restyle.

I've been to the VW museum at the factory in Uitenhage in South Africa where they have the first reincarnation of the modern beetle on a stand that splits completely in half from front to back in front of your eyes! It's very impressive!

we like it a lot. bought a TA '57 in blue today, delivery 4-6 weeks, only 700 apparantly.

Not all going exactly to plan. Phone call t'smornin' to say NO MORE Volare Blue left in manual TA flavour. Only 1 TA Dualogic in Volare, or 1200cc..

Only 1 TA mint manual left anywhere, and it hasn't been built yet. These models are NON variable, ie no spec change at all! So we had that one. We had seen the mint 2011MY ones , but was out today and saw new 2015MY mint, at a different dealer, and its a much stronger colour, (called new mint) so well go for it. These are very ltd. edition, and the man said there were only 10 left (colour /engine/gearbox variations included).. Well there is only 9 now.:slayer:

I really like the Vintage 57, you have to post pictures when it's delivered.
Shame Fiat didn't build more of them.
