General Fiat 500 S won’t stay in gear

Please help my Fiat 500 won’t stay on gear was fine yesterday and on the way to work! Now stuck at work. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks

Which engine?
And what year/mileage?
Are you able to check fluid levels, gearbox and if it is DuaLogic robot also?

Not stay in gear as in the gearstick goes back to neutral?
Can you hold the gearstick in place?

Not stay in gear as in dead clutch or no drive?

Not stay in gear as in broken gear selector cables?

"Not stay in gear" is a bit of an odd description for a manual, you'll need to elaborate a bit.

Ok,
Several options

Try with engine off, does the Grearstick move normally?

Try and select all 6 gears..

If that seems OK, start cars engine, try all 6 again

Is that different?

Sorry not a mechanic!!! Pops back to neutral when selecting a gear with engine on or off. No change with clutch peda

Ok,

So bonnet up,

Look BEHIND the battery, and slightly lower

That is the rear of the gearbox..
I suspect one of the 2 x Cables has popped off

You wriggle the Gearstick.. But the Gearbox end just flaps around..

You can visibly check this.. But
Maybe better/easier with an assistant

Worn end that drops off the mechanism at gearbox?

That's what happened to my friends 500.. Though it may be your issue

The new cable repair is permanent.. No occurrence several years on
