Styling Fiat 500 Bagged on Air Suspension

^ you're right. I had a daily driven bagged MK4 Jetta (Bora) and it held up just fine, however depending on well you install the air suspension it can lead to issues later on in the car's life.

I guess it's the same with anything you do to your car really.

it is worth noting that most cars on air or hydraulics are not daily drivers, they are toys. My old 1972 Merc was very low and almost too low for the road but it looked cool and I loved it.
...
I also had a 1964 Beetle that was very low again not as a daily driver but it looked cool (and was a Volksworld cover and feature car)

In 1982 I drove a beige Citroen GS Club as a daily drive. To cut a long story short I sold my 127 Sport to get the money for a deposit on a house and with a 'spare' insurance policy put my Uncle from Newfoundland on it for a month (here on holiday) for an auction car. So it got passed on to me.
At first I was a little embarrassed driving the car but then I started to like the quirkiness of it. Levels for the suspension was cool and the cockpit was like an airplane with dials everywhere. The lowest setting was ideal for the smooth open road sitting low to the ground. It was a car that was ahead of its time. I set a trend with my late friend buying a 3 speed auto version of it and another getting a 'new' GSA model. One drawback of the 500 is its highness and if the car could be lowered it would improve its drag co-efficient and would improve its mpg. Highly unlikely I would ever consider installing an 'air' suspension but I would be interested to know the costs involved for such a modification.

do you still have that Citroen? the cost varies on car and the type of management you choose to instal. somewhere between 1800-3000 USD

Thanks for the 'ball park' on the upgrade.
That Citroen was bought for around £250-£300 at an auction and only the bare money was spend on it to keep it going. There was an issue with rust on these cars and the suspension got problematic. IIRC the later models lost the expensive 'no one knew how to repair it suspension'.

The last time I saw a car as low as that it was standing on bricks because someone had nicked the wheels.
Loads of cars in "Liverpool" (insert stereotype) look like that :)

i think its awesome. is that the lowest you can go. maybe slide the belly on the ground when driving =) for extra speed.

ive got a coiloverkit on my fiat lowered 5cm front and 4cm with 17 enzo rims black coated--

love it. i highly recommend coilovers on the 500 becasue it feels and turns like a race car. =)

my question is does anyone have experienced how low you can lower it and still be good to drive it =)?

mine was -60mm on spax coilovers and would have gone lower

Why has no-one pointed out that its clearly a photoshopp'd image

When was said feature?? Not been buying it for years but i have at least 5 years worth of volksworlds in the cupboard, i may have that magazine.

My Tempra S.W. would look better with airride... :worship:
this looks like a toy, not a car:yuck:

i think he was showing it because it has air suspension, watch the end again. in fact listen to the end again... ;)

Erm, well no. He was replying to someone who was saying that air suspension was not good in terms of performance. It's reasonable to assume that his post was an attempt at countering this opinion?

well not wanting to start and arguement but air-ride suspension doesn't ruin a cars handling really, hydraulics yes but air-ride is much better. Never gonna be as good as a decent set of sports suspension but not that bad really. Agree that vid proves nothing really but that subaru will be not bad (when not on snow lol)

Again, I'm not quite sure what you're on about. Turtle said that he hates when people say that an airbagged car is a track weapon and he's right. A car with coilovers or just some decent shocks and springs will always be better.
