Think of your neighbours, not just where you live, but anywhere you visit.

There's a guy over the road a few doors down, with a Clio Sport, the real one, not a set of badges and trim.
With the standard exhaust it is a bit of a low drone/throb. Just ticking over, it is irritating, getting it off his drive involves a minute or more of low speed faffing, with revs raised a little. This rattles the windows and really assaults the ears. Not the volume, but the frequency. This morning I was in the shower when he left, so back of the house, electric pumped shower running noisily next to me. Yet I still knew he was moving.

There are many times I would happily throw rocks at him, or in best Top Gear style, drop a piano on it. Lovely car, once it's out of earshot.

His car is standard, so will have passed type approval. If enough of your neighbours are upset with yours, you might get a visit from the police, or local council, armed with noise meters, followed by an enforcement notice. Be nice.

Fiat knew what they were doing. More noise might lose some power as you mess with the gas flow.

(? I . . T . I , .)

Used to be a lad in the village who had a focus st no cat and EXTREMELY loud exhaust. According to an advert in Gumtree it was tuned to over 300bhp. It’s obviously been sold now, he used to drive round and round the village, and it became soo bad I ended up phoning the feds.

We had a motorcycle nearby a few years ago that used to just go around the by-pass and back through the town, for up to an hour. Strangely his bike got vandalized.

A young lad in this street, quite a few years ago now, had a potato stuffed well up his exhaust, with a small hole poked through the middle. Took him a few days of poking around trying to understand the loss of noise and especially power. Trundled around town smoothly and quietly though. Eventually took it into local garage, 2 hours of diagnostic labour later, and one of the mechanics spotted the blockage whilst car was on the hoist. (eye level) Charged the lad for the diag time, left him to dig it out himself. Took the hint, sold the car. Peace.
