can anyone let me know if it is normal for my exhaust to be angled and hanging at the front end of my car like this? i have noticed a clunking noise recently when i decided to look, was just wondering if it would be one of the exhaust clips?

It does look a bit odd. I wonder if the flexi joint is maybe an aftermarket item which is too long and therefore pushing the system down? Worth also checking engine mounts perhaps to see if one has failed and engine is sitting lower than it should be? Are you getting bad vibrations or anything?

no vibration just the clucking noise which is occasional.

Is clunking noise when you come off throttle?

If so, would be a classic symptom of rear engine mount 'dog bone'.

When it deteriorates it allows the exhaust to move back and forth too much and can snap the hanger further back. Is it still intact here?

There's also a bracket in front of the flexi which is famous for rusting away

This doesn't look right.

Before driving the car again, check to see that the bracket attaching the front of the exhaust to the gearbox housing is sound (it's a two part bracket). If this is compromised, it puts stress on the exhaust manifold, which can lead to broken studs and a cracked manifold.

If this does happen, it's no longer a cheap or easy fix.
