Hello Peeps,

Our beautiful 55 'reg Panda is misbehaving.

In the last 3 months i have spent over a grand, replacing radiator, cambelt, water pump, exhausts, suspension components, and it has a full MOT, then: disaster.

Son arrives in it and it sounds like it's firing on 2 cyls only. Engine mgmt light is on. We take it to garage, they plug diagnostics in.

They say it's either the coils, or something could have sent a spike to the ECU board and done something nasty to that. They reset the engine light, and the car drives perfectly. Their advice is to scrap it, saying if it's the coils, looking at about £500, but it could be the ECU and that will need setting up etc. and would probably also be about £500.

Garage are long-standing friends and do not mess me about, They have advised scrapping the car. I'm not v mechanically minded, but having replaced so many components, I thought I'd get another year or two's motoring out of it. It's a 2005 Dynamic 1242cc petrol engine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance hi, hope you've not sold it,

The coils are cheap and not complicated to change 🙂

I don't think it's economically viable to run a near-20 year old Panda unless you can maintain and repair it yourself.

If you can sort this current problem cheaply, now could be a good time to sell it privately. In this market, if it's running with no major faults and has a full year's MOT, you should get a fair proportion of your £1000 back.

And if you really did have to spend another £1000 to get it running again, then I'd agree with your garage, it'd be better to just scrap it.
