Technical Engine Coolant for my Fiat 500.

Help Please.

I have a Fiat 500 (09) 1.2 petrol, i check under the bonnet regularly and top my oil up screen wash etc.. i came to check my engine coolant, its just above the min (i understand this is the cold level) does it need topping up?

also in the manual it states i should use "Paraflu up." is this Fiat just trying to get us to spend more money or is this really what i need to use?

when filling it up also i should never fill it to the max mark, as when the temperature heats up the coolantwill expand to the max mark, right?

i guess i am just being a women and hope there is a simple answer

The correct answer is

Well done for checking things.

Level sounds fine for a cold level.

More important is to remember that its just above the lower limit so when you check it next week, if its moved you will be aware of a an issue before it becomes a problem.

Paraflu is Fiat's brand name for long life coolant (the pinky/orange one) You can use any long life coolant to top up if neccessary.

I am starting a new job approx.30 miles away from home so thought id give her a nice once over, but should it noticably go down in a week?

if it has gone down what type of problem could it be?

like a in "invisable leak" isnt that your head gasket?

so i can use any long life engine coolant as long as its pinky/orangey? will this void my waranty?

Lottie, there were some members with 1.2's who suffered coolant loss which if I remember correctly was caused by a faulty thermostat housing/gasket.

The level should not move at all between weekly checks.

You are not looking for a specific problem at this time, its just keeping a regular eye on everything so that if a problem does arise you will be aware of it before it results in a steamy mess on the hard shoulder.

It is a very good practice to follow, and sadly most drivers do not do it, and then moan like hell when the car lets them down.

I wouldn't be topping up at this point anyway, but any long life pink/orange/peach coolant will not void your warranty.
