An odd one today...

I was driving a country lane, after some mild motorway driving.

EML appears and i noticed that the coolant gauge was at zero (or even below the min mark).

I pulled over and concerned that i had sprung a leak wanted to see if there was coolant etc. I removed the rad / top up cap and was able to add a small amount of coolant (maybe 1/4 litre).

On checking the igntion, the coolant gauge was working again.

I was obviously concerned that id lost all coolant and risking overheating issues etc., but this didnt seem to be the case.

The thermostat needs replacing as it takes ages to get up to temp and motorway driving shows temp at 1/4 on the gauge, with parked idling allowing it to get to the half way mark (and nit more).

I checked the EML code and think it was P0116 which relates to coolant circuit. Electrical? (silly me cleared the code without jotting it down).

Light is now cleared / extinguished but id like to check and see if there is an issue.

Where should i start looking?

If it was p0115

In my experience with a dodgy thermostat, if the coolant temp drops to 60ºC while driving it'll throw an EML, but will reset with a restart.
