Had a headlight bulb fail, which also blew the fuse. Replaced both the bulb and the fuse, but now the sidelight on the front left isn't working. Changed the bulb in it but no joy.

Also needs a new battery which is on order. I have MES, but does MES program a new battery?

The side light and daylight running light bulb (21/5w)are in the same housing as the main beam light. You didnt say if it was main or dipped beam light you replaced ? but you may have disturbed/broken a wire or connector. Changing bulbs via the inspection door in wheel arch liner can be somewhat fiddly. A bit easier if you take the relevant front wheel off to improve access. Worse case is take off whole front bumber to get to the connectors for the for the light unit.
I can confirm no battery programming on a 2012 500.

It was the low beam bulb that was changed from under the bonnet. Had a look in the DRL and spotted the insulation around the brown wire was cracked. Also the connector was full of water. I have run a wire from the main loom to the side light holder for now to get it working but at some point it will need a new lamp and connector.
