many thanks

Nope you won't have one its a diesel thing

Sorry but NO. EGR is NOT just a diesel "thing".

EGR on petrol engines do exists but not as common at this time. EGR will be finding its way into more and more petrol engines as emissions regualtions tighten.

Regarding the specific question/engine re: Punto 1.2 8V 53 Reg I've not investigate this particular model.

Let us all be clear. EGR is used on both Petrol and Diesel engines but specific application/usage is very much market/date/etc dependent and generally diesel engines get EGR before petrol ones. You have to actually investigate each and every model (all brands) to determine if EGR is used or not.

Lets me be clear.

I'm not saying Fiat petrol engines do or do not have EGR. I could prove or disprove this but I'm not prepared to spend the time researching all the models.

What I am saying is that EGR is NOT restricted to diesel engines only and any petrol engine may or may not have EGR.

I seem to recall (but not 100% sure) that some Fiat 124 Spiders for the US Californian market had EGR.

This raises another important point. EGR can be totally passive not involving an active EGR valve as we now see on modern diesel engines.

Just like the old "crank case" recirculation methods (no valves, no active control etc) some earlier EGR systems just bled a little exhaust gas back into the intake on some petrol engines.
