Hi,

Newbie here thanks for looking and, hopefully, helping me to resolve this issue...

I've searched the site and the internet but not found anything which is close enough to what I'm seeing to believe that I've got a fix.

My 90 bhp 1.3 multijet 06 reg with 90K miles on the clock has behaved perfectly for the last 3 years. Last week I sold it to my partner and, the next day when I was driving it, the problem started.

When started from cold the performance is terrible, as described by many others on this site. If I wait until the temperature gauge just creeps of the bottom (around 4-5 minutes of use) and restart the engine then everything is fine. If the engine has been stopped for as much as 3 hours and then restarted such that it is still marginally warm then the car runs perfectly.

2 years ago I had to jump start the car and since then the engine warning light comes on 100% of the time but there have never been any performance or behaviour issues. I took it for its 90K service on Friday and asked Fiat to look at the issue. They told me that the body computer wasn't talking to the ECU and that a software update was needed. They charged me £120 for the privilege but failed to fix any issues. They now tell me that I need a new ECU because the unit won't report any other faults until the warning light issue is resolved... That'll be another £550 please.

So, my questions are:

1. Has anyone else had this specific behaviour and if so what was the cause / cure.
2. Is there any after market (scrap dealers included) where I can get a replacement ECU for a reasonable price?

FYI, on a motorway run the car will happily return 55mpg while driving at around 70 mph so no economy issues.

I look forward to any feedback.

On a related note, I've never seen any posts about servicing the EGR valve on a 1.3 diesel other than to say that it's a pig to get to. Can anyone help me out with this as I might just take it apart for a quick look anyway...

Thanks
Argy

Answer is none of the above...

The actual cause was a sticky turbo waste gate.

Fiat main dealer diagnosed it as a faulty ECU and wanted £525 to replace it. Then, they said, once the new ECU was in place they'd take another look and see if there were any other issues.

Don't waste time any money taking your poorly fiat to the main dealer. I took mine to Camco in Warrington where they did a thorough diagnosis and a complete fix all for a fraction of the price fiat wanted for a fully functional ECU...

Yo,
Error code PO106 , MAP good, EGR removed and cleaned, not as hard as it looks, @4 hours, the neck of were the EGR enters the manifold was almost totaly blocked. Cleaned EGR and car ran much better with less throttle, but Engine light still came on, me thinks mine is Turbo over boost due to waste gate prob. MAF sensor trips to on limp mode at @4.5v if sustained for more that a spike.:slayer:

The two bolts holding Egr to head, are they torx? If so what size? T45 or t40? Been trying to remove Egr on a vauxhall combo 1.3 , same engine isn't it? Under inlet on back of engine near passenger side?

Hi,

T45 I think. Split the lot right down and remove the EGR nossle from the manifold it will be a mess. Also remove the turbo boost pipe to manifold were the EGR nossle sits and clean the sutty gunk out. My van ran much better due to cleaning the restriction of the manifold neck with sutt. My Map sensor is still tripping at max boost going into limp mode. I think my turbo waste is stuck as the Map reading gives a linear build in pressure up to max not a sudden drop of as you may expect with a leaky intercooler on boost.

I think if you have a boost side leaks then the UCE reads a sudded change ie. drop in pressure as a fault, and a more than max spike readin at high pressure as a fault. Intercoolers with a crack can hold pressure then let go abruptly at peek boost giving a error.

Engine light on

Limp mode on

Fault code PO106 MAS sensor circuit

New MAP sensor no change £80:cry: Engine switching to limp at high rev and boost.

It was a stuck vacuum actuator on turbo leeding to over boost at high load. I freed it up without removal after I made a lever tool. Bloody jumpin up and down like a nutter a not havin to remove turbo or worse spend money Idon't have.

I'm gonna set up my multi reader to read the max reading of the MAP at full boost spike whilst givin in the beens. Later:slayer:
