I wanted to open a thread to discuss clutch prices on the ducato comfortmatic

Why is it expensive to change the clutch on this type when it’s still a manual gearbox ? Can someone explain
see quotes of £1100 to £1500 to change the clutch because it’s comfortmatic has tho it’s automatic and a hard job ?
When I was going down this route with the no gears available issue I was quoted £650 for a 3.0 ducato multijet they did not say
Oh because it’s comfortmatic I’ll have to charge a grand more 😂

Model
Fiat Ducato 3.0 multijet 160
Year
2009
Mileage
80000
I quick search for Ducato comformatic clutch suggests just the clutch can be between £450 and £700, with a flywheel I presume it has a DMF it’s more like £900-£1000 and with Labour on top those prices don’t seem all that mad. That initial price may well have just been the price of the clutch kit

Yes I think your right I just checked the email quote and doesn’t mention flywheel

I think the reason behind most clutch changes when come to this no gear available was the clave cylinder I’ve found many threads saying when it came to the clutch change the only issue was the slave and some cases the plastic springs but the dm is there to basically cushion the gear change so if signs of clutch slipping and generating lot of heat ya change the lot
But based on evidence what’s happening with this no gears available it’s always been the master slave

I wouldn’t change my dm unless I had heard signs there was a problem

Some vehicles have a concentric slave which installs around the input shaft of the gearbox, if this needs changing the gearbox needs to come out.
If you’re taking out the gearbox might as well change the clutch and with dual mass flywheels if they don’t need changing with the clutch they probably soon will and garages don’t want you coming back and complaining that it was something wrong with their clutch fitment that caused the failure of the flywheel, so they will quote for the whole job and change the lot.

At least then the job is done from your point of view and should give peace of mind for many miles.

Most garages or main dealers have to take the engine out to replace the clutch. That is why the cost is so high.

I posted on here recently that I have changed the clutch without removing the engine. It was difficult, but can be done. Through multiscan I was able to bleed the clutch, recalibrate it and reset the robotics. Now back on the road. Hope this is helpful.
