General Ducato 2.8 JTD 2002

Hi All

I am fairly new to the forum and we have just purchased a second-hand Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD van 2002.

She's in pretty good condition but has a few issues and I just wanted a few pointers.

The speedo doesn't appear to work and the mileometer the same. Should these have been checked and confirmed working on her last MOT?

The main issue is the gear stick. It is very difficult to find the gears and they are very stiff. We're going to end up with arms like Hercules if we don't get it sorted. There is a lot of play in the gear stick up and down. I've taken the casing off and there appears to be a broken clip that is attached to the top of the mechanism but I can't see what it's attached to.

We are taking her to our local garage but just wondered what we could expect in way of parts and likely cost.

We've also been told the timing belt hasn't been changed. She's done 85000 miles if the mileometer is to be trusted.

No the only test on the speedo for the mot is presents , security/condition and illumination it doesn't actually have to work though , not sure if yours is a cable speedo or not there used to be a plastic gear on the diff that would strip it's teeth an easy repair though as could be done in place , as for the timing belt I would get it done if you have no history no doubts then .
