Hi guys new to the fiat forum I’m reaching out for help on my ducato ,
Story so far cold snap after Xmas made my van slip a tooth on the timing so over the last few months in between weather and work I have stripped and rebuilt the top end with all the necessary parts water pump belt pulleys, rockers etc skimmed pressure tested , mot cause that ran out too you know the script , anyway this morning coming down the m6 after about ten miles it started making a tapping sound all of a sudden first thoughts the plastic arch liner had dropped catching the tyre , then I noticed the lack of power . I managed to limp off the slip road and couple of miles along the a5 to my job .
No leaks no water in oil , temp staying fine no management light ticks over but happy starts , nothing so tonight set off for home drove a mile down the road van was flat as !! Labouring tapping smoking bluish to white smoke bellowing behind me but couldn’t have got home as it struggled to pull up the hill . So 295 plus vat later for a lift home on a 12 ton recovery truck was paid so that’s no pennies made today !!
Does anyone recognise these symptoms as I’m wondering if it’s worth repairing at this minute any ideas would be welcomed thanks in advance .

My guess would be, no compression on that cylinder hence the white smoke from unburnt fuel, possibly caused by a valve dropped or stuck open.
If unable to do a compression test, when cranking but disabled from starting you may hear an uneven beat in the engine revolutions. Alternatively with engine safely switched off, a socket and bar on the crankshaft pulley may detect as you come up on compression on each individual cylinder , one "easy" one. Sorry!:(

Thanks for the reply I’ve thought this I will do some investigating I have thought maybe a collet could of come loose but if a valve dropped out it would drop in the cylinder and jam up surely as they are vertically aligned to the pistons when the rockers were shattered it did not bend the valves as I had them checked when they did the pressure test and skim so im going to try unplugging each injector to see which cylinder it is first if I can .
