No such thing as a stupid question John. both bulbs are correct twin filament. I suspect the drl are turned off in the menu as the warning triangle only appears when the headlights are turned on. I have tested continuity on the bulbs and they seem fine. Will change the drl menu tomorrow and see if that helps at all. Thanks for your assistance.Stupid question they are switched on in the menu? And you've replaced both bulbs with type 580?
What message appears when the headlights are turned on? As the drl message should come on at start up not with headlights that suggests side light issue(number plate say)No such thing as a stupid question John. both bulbs are correct twin filament. Hi John, I will check the wording this morning and let you know. I have had the number plate light warning before but would that affect the side lights? Worth a look as well so thanks for the pointer. Will report backWhat message appears when the headlights are turned on? The dash says checking running lights and both number plate lamp are workingHi John, I will check the wording this morning and let you know. I have had the number plate light warning before but would that affect the side lights? Worth a look as well so thanks for the pointer. Will report back![]()
So just to be clear, with the headlights OFF, when you start the car, if the day time running lights are faulty/bulb gone, then the triangle comes on straight away, not when you turn on the headlights, the message won't come up if the drl are turned off even if a bulb is out.
If the message only comes on when the side/head lights are turned on its a side light issue note earlier cars like ours had 10w rear side bulbs later I think 5w, so if it's the former and you put 5w in it will flag message as incorrect current draw?
Hi John, I really appreciate the info, I will try the key out first. The relay fix may require some thinking on my behalf, my main concern is getting it through the mot which it failed last week due to position lights. Happy to keep the drl lights off.Do the side lights work ok, if you, with the key out, turn on the headlights from the off position are the front sidelights in the bumper on dimly?
The drl's connect directly to the body computer, its not clear if there's a fuse specifically for them, the bcm could have got fried on that circuit? did they ever work or is the car new to you? If you're clever it is possible to "make" them work and go out with the side lights if you really wanted by rewiring them via a relay or two?
I should have added, i have had the car 5 years and drls/side lights have always been an issue on and off. I have serviced it several times, changes pads and discs, replaced clutch slave cylinders etc even done the cam belt and water pump properly twice but the lights are a bloody mystery. I can see on the drivers side someone at some point has extended the wiring and soldered the bulb connector but it did work.Hi John, I really appreciate the info, I will try the key out first.
