First time posting so ill say hi first :D

Well in the snow and ice we have been having i stupidly left my windscreen wiper stalk down and got out of the car for the night when i came back in the morning started up and my windscreen wipers were frozen to my screen.

Unfortunately i head something go pop but they continued to work for a bit :(

The only way i could see there was a problem was the fact the wiper didnt have full movement all the way across the screen it was stopping about 10cm from the edge of the screen.

Now recently it has started getting caught by the other windscreen wiper as that comes up.

Any ideas whats gone and how i am best to go about replacing it.

Oh another when i removed the windscreen wiper arm i could see the spindle moving as it should but when the wiper is attached it doesnt move until the other wiper is 50% of the way across. I can also move the windscreen wiper by hand across the screen.

If anythings not clear i wouldnt be suprised but if u want me to answer any more questions post away :D

Thanks in advance

dont kno if this helps but my mk1 punto had a similer probolem wen i put it wipe it stoped half up the screen but it was a quick fix but involved removing mechanical part of the wipers ie the motor and assembly then i dismantled the motor and cleaned the brushes and contacts on the spindle with abit of sand paper then resembled and all was good hope this helps

alltho the bolt may of come loose that holds arm to spindle pop the cap of and realine wiper tighten down and you should be sorted tell me if this helped

and well come to the forum (y)

Got any pictures showing where it will have snapped ?

Also i dont think it is the arm as the wiper moves without the linkage moving and vice versa i thought i was to do with the connection that extends the linkage up through above the bonnet ?

ive tightened the bolt up and replaced the arm several times :p

Wipers was working fine then suddenly stopped on drivers side. Need help urgently so can get home in morning

Most likely the driver side link arm has fallen off due to wear of the rubber bush and tbh a fairly poor design.
Open the bonnet. The wiper motor is almost in front of the steering wheel, covered with a black plastic lid , usually. You should see two arms, one on either side going to the wiper spindles. The driver side one has probably fallen off and you could simply pop it back on again and it may last for a while. They usually do if it's the first time.
Failing that all sorts of combinations of wire, cable ties and elastic bands have been used as stopgaps to get you home. the basic idea is to tie the floppy arm up but leave enough slack for the mechanism to operate.
There are lots of ways to fix this permanently for a few bob. Get back after you get home safely.
