I'm on the verge of scrapping a 'replacement' tailgate.
O.K., so it's painted red and covered in Bradford Bulls stickers... but, it is rust-free and an awful shame to bin it ! It didn't even raise an eyebrow, let alone a bid, on ebay.
Take it away tomorrow, for free.
If you don't, you will be regretting it this time next year.

I've got 3 really decent spare tailgates!
Why didn't the doors get built int the same way!

Because for some bizarre Fiat reason, they galvanised the body shell complete with tailgate and bonnet. THEN they fitted the doors !

When they sold the plant to Seat, the new owners also fitted the doors before running the cars through the tank.

So ...
Seat doors last forever and nobody wants them, even though they are a perfect fit.
Fiat doors last until the first M.O.T. and are worth their weight in copper (currently ... trust me ! ).
Funny old world.

I think they must have changed the metal composition for Fiat's after a while. My '94' panda doesn't have any rust anywhere.

There's a good point! Dodgy metal lol! Aint seen nothing till you've owned a mk 1 though Did they galvanise any of the mk 1's atall!?

The marbella doors might be better though but they are different aswell. They have quarter lights and ribbed/corregated bottom section. If you dont mind having those differences then i say marbella doors all the way!

Actually thinking about it, its probably because of poor drainage from the windscreen rubber seal. Do the Mk 2's have the little drainage pipes that make a convenient rusting point just above the vents on the scuttle?
