I have just had the diesel pressure regulator changed by my local fiat dealer. When I drove it off and the engine warning light came back on and when I took it back they told me that the fitter had got diesel on the sensor connector and this was showing the error! The solution was to spray brake cleaner on it, and it seemed to work. Now two days later the light has come back on.
Do you think that I should ask for another new regulator to be fitted the sensor connector it seems is now clearly contaminated? Any advice would be appreciated before I get back to FIAT.

They had done a diagnostic and it came back with the diesel pressure regulator fault. The car does drive better since so I would have to say they were right to change it in the first place.

I initially went back when it first happened that was when they cleaned the connector but havn't had the chance to yet, so will try on Tuesday. I really just wanted to know whether I should ask for another new part.

One other thing that I noticed is that my "cokpit" display now says "oil level too high" which it never did before I took it to fiat! Would they have hade to change the oil to do the pressure regulator and overfilled it? I have checked the dipstick and it says half full. All seems a bit odd.

Fuel pressure regulator can stick causing all manner of problems, unfortunately the main cause of this problem is contaminated fuel. I would definately have drained the fuel tank and replaced the fuel filter. Any swarf in the system if not removed could cause the new part to fail prematurely. Alternatively the housing the regulator sits in could also be damaged and could cause sticking even if the system was cleaned out.

Well have been back to fiat three times now after they replaced my diesel pressure regulator and my engine control light is still showing a fault. They keep reseting it saying initially that they had contaminated the connection with diesel. They have cleaned it three times and the light stays out for a while then comes back on, they say that it is now probably a wiring fault from between the sensor and the control unit! This has peed me off as maybe I didn't need to fork out £250 for a new regulator in the first place. Anybody heard of this happening before?

I assume that the part is under warranty and as I took the vehicle in to them initially to fix the engine error, which showed a regulator fault in the first place have assumed that they would feel obliged to work on it till it's fixed.
