"£1000 a year to keep it on the road" 🤔
(Seems a lot..)

A TA 500 is £0 VED, @£50 mot
circa £300 in parts at OP's current level..

My punto TA is the same but on 74,000 miles,

Just 2 road spring failures and service items.
Tyres, oil and Filters
Brakes still from 2012 as is Battery and Exhaust

Insurance will vary massively..
but 875cc motor helps there 😊

Aye it's expensive per mile that's for sure but it's a 'company' vehicle so there's tax relief.

I can see that the RFT will end up making me change it though, £320 currently so it will probably be up this year I suspect.

That cost doesn't include diesel btw.

Just had a look for last year it cost me £1,727 but that includes diesel @ £376 for the year plus, RFT @ £320 and insurance @£264

Service, mot & repairs were £572 that includes £150 for two tyres and another £95 for a B&M repair so £667 in total for running repair costs.

Nearly 57p a mile I make it but punters are paying that.

You need to average the cost of some items, like tyres, as they should last a few years.
Insurance is very person/location dependent, and as such not a good indicator of cost in general.

In the last year, our 500 was about £180? Road tax + MOT + a bulb + service items.
Year before an extra £250, but that was timing belt, sump, and front brake discs and pads.
Quoting a single year with your personal insurance circumstance is a bit pointless.

It’s been serviced properly for a couple of years but before that, she was at university and I doubt if it’s been serviced regularly during those years, despite me telling her that I’d pay for the servicing..
Is there something I could ask a garage to check to try and guage future problems?
Ask her and look at the Service Book to see what the position is. A garage isn't going to be able to do much if anything by way of checks, unless it is throwing fault codes, which I assume it isn't. Others are more experienced with TAs and will have a view, but they certainly don't like neglect.
