I would be interested to know precisely what has "gone". And who quoted you £5K for the repair. Is it a Twin Air?
Yes me too, recently had a second DMF and clutch on my 2013 4x4 TA. Thrust bearings chew up the output shaft casting in the bellhousing but the damage does not cause any harm (thus far).

Thank you all. I'm working on solving the problem now, unless anyone wants to make me a sensibly large offer! Wife has rather lost confidence in the car. Most grateful for all the advice/encouragement though
...

An ide of what you're looking for might help? If you want the problem to go away, possibly put up a for sale listing with some pics or more information

Going round in circles on this one now. Aargh! Any offers?
Well you have kind of painted yourself into a corner with the anticipated remedial costs. On that basis many would say "beyond economic repair" so don't anticipate too many "generous" offers! If you are serious about selling it as a non-runner please message me.

all I need now is a buyer...

I suspect you’re not going to get one as things stand…

The best rated indie, Small Car Services, is in your neck of the woods. It specialises in small Italian cars and has 5 100% member ratings. That is exceptional (nowhere else comes close to this). Here’s the site page:

Why not give ‘em a ring and talk thru your problem(s)? I’m just south of Birmingham and have an issue with my 4x4 clutch and am seriously considering driving down because - let’s face it - if you’re going to be spending a chunk of money you want the cost controlled and the work done by those who understand + have experience with these cars.

Otherwise, you’re probably looking at parts values on eBay…

Thanks for that JayAre. I’ll make contact with them tomorrow, with fingers firmly crossed. I was at the M3 Eastleigh turnoff on Thursday by chance.

Well, thanks to JayAre, I have a successful outcome: DMF and clutch replaced just three days after the car was dropped off there. SCS turned out to be a star enterprise, as suggested. Very reasonable charges and completed ten days sooner than they thought they might have capacity. As you can imagine, I am delighted to finish with a working car, rather than a couple of hundred pounds from webuyanycar. Many thanks to those who contributed comments, especially JayAre.

Second attempt...
Discussion with Dean identified to him that it was most unlikely that the DMF problem would have damaged the bellhousing. Not driving it would avoid doing any more damage. Recovery 65 miles to Eastleigh (to avoid any further damage and to avoid me having to trailer it there @ £80 for trailer hire etc) £150 all in.

Job done as follows:
Investigate vibration and gear selection difficulty
Confirmed DMF failure
Removed front subframe and gearbox
Fitted new DMF & complete new clutch kit
Refitted gbox & subframe
Roadtested & checked all OK

Twinair Clutch kit. £92.21 + VAT
Dual Mass Flywheel £268.55 + VAT
Labour 6 hrs £330 + VAT
Total roughly. £829 incl VAT (did some other work costing £70 as well)

So overall including recovery and extra work cost £1050. Currently drives like new. Current market value now over £4K. webuyanycar offer (working) was £3K; not working was £250, less £49 handling charge... Not sure what I might have got on here or ebay/spares sale, despite the car being immaculate in that lovely khaki green.

SCS also confirmed another known issue (propshaft bearing wearing) which remains under observation. Their estimate to replace bearing is £250, including parts; Main Agents will only replace whole propshaft @ c.£2000.

Dean and his team are magic; I shall book it in for the propshaft bearing when it is convenient to them and me.They have the parts in stock, as they did with the DMF and clutch kit.

A bit long, but I hope it helps.

Mmm. 2nd hand gearboxes on ebay are going for £1K ish. Clutch, bearing and flywheel another £600. Labour for a good indie, probably £700-1000. So £2.5K ish.

That would be my choice...
... My 2015 TA 4x4 (97k miles) had a clutch apocalypse recently - needed new clutch kit (plates and thrust bearing which had disintegrated ) , clutch arm, and a new dual mass fly wheel - I also got the front suspension arms replaced (bushes gone) - came to c£1600 at a local garage. Gearbox seems ok so not needed - but £700 for a secondhand one was mentioned...

This is great news, and offers hope to others facing a similar problem.

And thanks for posting the review for SCS in tha garages section.

Best of all, you now don't have the hassle of trying to find another car in the current market.
