when i drive in a low gear (4th - 5th) at a slow speed about 30 mph my car seems to chug and the rev counter bounces between 1300 1400 rpm and i get no acceleration what so ever does this suggest my spark/glow plugs need changed or is there water in my fuel tank ?

any help would be much appreciated

You mean high gear ?

Driving at 30 MPH in 5th is going to make your RPMs drop, seems a bit of a high gear to me, if it were me I would be using 3rd at 30 unless it was just a continuous straight road at 30 with not a lot of slowing down I'd move into 4th.

You may have done that in a different car, but most cars rev differently, but it certainly doesn't sound like anything is actually wrong with your car.

yeah sorry high gear but tbh its started doing it in ever gear just now and then i try to go for power and it just bounces on the rev count and i get now pull what so ever if i hold my foot down on the pedel for too long as well i sometimes get the engine managment light coem on until i take my foot off and slow down n change gear, ps i drive a 1.2 petrol

Do you mean that when you press the accelerator the engine revs rise but the car doesn't speed up? If so clutch is knackered.

when i press the accelerator the revs rise slightly but the car seems to chug back and forward but there is no increase in speed what so ever unless i lift my foot of the pedal and either push down again really slowly or if i change gear so i think you may be right james i think the clutch might be knackered

When your in low gears, say 1st and 2nd and you are accelerating, do you have this lack of power or is it only when your in 4th and 5th at 30mph?
