Hi everyone
I’ve recently bought a motor home which is built on a 2017 Ducato 2.3 multijet 180 with 14k miles
We recently took it away to Devon, no problems. On the way back, going up hills mainly, when the engine was labouring, so to speak, the orange light came on and “check engine” came up on the dash only for about 30 seconds then went off and the whole journey of about 3 hours at 60mph it came on twice more for about the same amount of time. Please to anyone any ideas what it could be

Model
Fiat ducato
Year
2017
Mileage
14000
The mil can come on for many many reasons.
The ONLY way forward is to plug into the diagnostic socket with a suitable reader and read the code/s that caused the mil to light.

Did you buy from a dealer? Or private sale?
If from dealer did you pay on finance scheme?
When was last service? Was it carried out by a fiat dealer?
Is it an A class motor home?

a quicker synopsis
as yet without any codes or data anything is pure guess work. so a number of questions
take a clean kitchen towel and wipe the exhaust pipe, is it squeeeky clean sooty or oily.
Have you any paperwork or idea whether it has been serviced at a fiat pro dealer or the ecu version?
is it manual or comfortmatic.
In this position i would advise get up and running with Multiecuscan as soon as possible and then get the data we need to advise you of the best course of action. in the worst case it might be reject the motorhome back to the dealer so things need to done with a little bit of haste. Sorry if this sounds a bit excessive but again in the worst case we could be talking £k6-10.

Can only agree with others, you need a code reader.

I have a cheaper one I am about to sell as I went over to Multiscan, it’s good but Multiscan does the lot.

It’s £120 well spent. I asked at the dealers when I had mine and the light came on, they wanted £120 just to read the codes. :-(

I have got away with a £10 thing and a free app for years but if you are keeping the Ducato, you are just delaying the inevitable as you will really need it eventually.

For a quick comparison, the cheaper code reader I have gave me the faults but not specific DPF parameters. I was all set for a DPF clean or replacement, at least £200. Multiscan showed a sensor that was out and fingers crossed it will be a £13 part. If so, I have saved already and it’s the first time I have used it.

Where are you based?
