Hello, everyone. I just wanted to share this for the benefit of others who may have experienced the check airbag warning appearing on the dashboard.
I had this warning message come up earlier today, which coincidentally happened at the same time I was opening the driver's door (the car was idling).
I never thought about a link to the door being opened at the time; however, another owner shared on Reddit that she had the same fault and that the cause was a wire break in the wiring loom to her driver's door.
I, too, found a broken wire when I pulled back the rubber sleeve to reveal the wiring loom to the driver's door. In fact, in my wrangling with the sleeve, I actually broke another wire. I am an electrician, so I am fortunate enough to be able to effect repairs. However, I actually found 5 wires warranting repair, with a further 5 that had cracked insulation and were on their way to failing.
The long and short of it is that there are 17 individual cables in the loom to the door, and it's clearly a weak point for our car, which has less than 20,000 miles on the clock.
If you experience airbag warning light troubles, you might do well to look in the same place before losing too much sleep over it.
I use a fairly basic draper OBD scan tool, which usually meets my needs; however, on this occasion, no diagnostic trouble codes were present.
