Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) The Panda

Introduction

Name Change! Previously known as Charmania for anyone not in the know, she's had a slight rename, keeping the Char but sticking my favourite childhood Pokemon name in there, Charmander, mainly because the first time I ever encountered a Panda I was about 8 years old and Pokemon was my favourite thing in the whole world.

Some details,
1992 Fiat Panda 750 Mania
769cc FIRE engine.
Lowered 40mm.
Seicento Sporting Front Seats
Side Stripes for faster acceleration
Fiat 127 'Palio' Alloys.
Veglia Rev counter, so I can count my revs.

I washed her, wanted to take her somewhere nice for pictures but it hasn't been sunny for long enough to do that, so I'll get nicer pictures at some point....
Here she is now, Charmanda.

Sorry for the terrible lighting. Can't do much about the sun.
discs get surface rust really quickly.. Like if you wash the car and polish it, by the time you done polishing checkout the discs and you will see the surface rust, its all normal. I think cause its a old fiat with little to no sound deadening you can hear it more than on a modern car but they do it too.

As my cars regularly sit for months upon months mine can get pretty bad, but only takes about 10-20 miles to clean them back to nice and shiny even after 6-12 months.

Merry Christmas everyone! Char' has given me a present this morning, went to go pick my brother up, throttle is stuck open :bang:
Started her, roared her head off and certainly woke any sleeping neighbours up.
Had to get out and turn the throttle back on the carb. Started her up again but as soon as I touch the accelerator pedal it stays open and you have to get out to fix it

Well my suspicions have been confirmed after I called breakdown recovery to see if they'd do anything, throttle cable has had it, everything is moving freely but the cable won't return so its probably frayed and getting caught or something.
Is this correct? it looks too short but I'm not really sure. Can I fit it easily myself or is it going to be a pain to do?

EDIT: The part number listed in the ebay ad comes back on ePER as 'Flexible Shaft'

Easy to fit...you just have to lay on your back in the footwell staring at the pedals.

Easy for you, but gets harder when your my age.

The cable look right to me....think about it, look under the bonnet and see where the cable goes into the car pedals..not far is it.

Sometimes I forget how small Panda's are, I'll order it and have ago myself when it arrives (y)

I have good and bad news.

Bad News; The Panda is not going to be my full time car anymore, its unfortunately going to be replaced with a boring modern car. Due to MOT being due (which it certainly won't pass because of all the little, inexpensive however, things that need doing and my lack of time before I go back to Uni) I will be using something maybe slightly more safe and reliable (although probably not much more since I don't see the Panda as unreliable).

Good News; The Panda isn't going anywhere, its going to be SORN'd and put behind our house in a little private car park. I will come home every month as I have been doing anyway and make sure to start her up, keep her clean and maybe drive around the car park a bit to keep things moving until sometime in the Spring when I will MOT her again.

I'd rather not do this but I need a car that works right now and quite frankly all of Char's little problems are cheap and easy fixes but they still need to be done and I really am relying on a working car right now so boring modern car is going to stick with me through the rest of the winter.

Sorry I've been completely neglecting the forum. Uni work has been keeping me busy.
The new(ish) car is French and... well its French, but being new(ish) its comfy to drive on the motorway and having just over 3 times the power as Char' it goes up hills a bit easier.
I was home the weekend just gone. Got Char' started, wasn't exactly first turn of the key but this is mainly due to the fact I can't use the throttle at all (yes I haven't replaced the cable, mine is completely different to the one off ebay I got and can't seem to find one that looks like mine anywhere :bang:)
Anyway, on the 3rd or 4th try she fired up and ran fine, gave her a few revs and she sounds just as Panderish as always (y)
I miss driving her but only on sunny days down the lanes, all this winter motorway driving doesn't really suit her.

Good to hear from you Didge, I'm in a similar boat, driving my dads brava till March, I really can't wait to get driving ptp again!!

Quick question, whats the bit of tube that goes from the cam cover to the airbox (behind the filter)?
I removed this when attempting to fit my throttle cable (that turned out to be the wrong one) and found it has quite a lot of oil in it and therefore the airbox (carb side of the air filter) also had a small amount of oil in it.

Breather pipe. May be worth renewing, or cleaning out... -- but may have some Brillo-pad-like stuff in, as a flame trap (can't remember: as the Punto's was the last one I fettled...).
