Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) The Panda

Introduction

Name Change! Previously known as Charmania for anyone not in the know, she's had a slight rename, keeping the Char but sticking my favourite childhood Pokemon name in there, Charmander, mainly because the first time I ever encountered a Panda I was about 8 years old and Pokemon was my favourite thing in the whole world.

Some details,
1992 Fiat Panda 750 Mania
769cc FIRE engine.
Lowered 40mm.
Seicento Sporting Front Seats
Side Stripes for faster acceleration
Fiat 127 'Palio' Alloys.
Veglia Rev counter, so I can count my revs.

I washed her, wanted to take her somewhere nice for pictures but it hasn't been sunny for long enough to do that, so I'll get nicer pictures at some point....
Here she is now, Charmanda.

Sorry for the terrible lighting. Can't do much about the sun.
the one on Talon was different. it came up and over.. rather than down and under like this one does.

replaced it now with this type. you need to use the or mod the thing the cable winds on from off the carb of the new type. as the old one winds differently.

the throttle cable snaps on the up and over type but this other kind is built to last!

Oh! Can you take a pic of it some time?
I can do next time I visit home (first week of March), mine doesn't have any of the plastic bits, it bolts onto a bracket by the carb and then hooks onto the throttle. I tried to work out how I can get the one from ebay to fit but it has too much slack between the bracket and the throttle.

Here is a highly complex diagram of my throttle cable setup, (it gets bigger if you click it...)
Throttle cable diag.png

It only has 2 bolts on it, to hold it the bracket which is the point it gets its leverage from, unlike the ebay one which has a plastic thing and then the bit rubberized bit that compresses when the cable is pulled. Mine lacks such a thing.

Heading home this weekend so will take some pictures of my throttle cable in the hope I can get a replacement from somewhere, if not can anyone take a picture of how theirs is fitted to see if I can make the one from ebay work on Char?
Thanks :)

I should be able to if you need it, take a pic of your carb though before hand as iirc there are 2 types of cable depending upon the throttle design.

I'm home and its sunny!
Been really missing driving a Panda!
Got Char' practically started first turn since the weather is warmer but the battery died just as she started to fire up. Connected the jump leads to the Renault (I knew it had a purpose for existing) and started up straight away :D
Twiddled around with the throttle under the bonnet but couldn't get it to turn all the way to idle, its just turning itself back? Decided to loosen the nuts on either side of the bracket thing that holds the throttle cable, so now they're just finger tight rather than spanner tight and lo and behold she idles :worship: and the throttle comes back when pressed!

Couldn't help myself, I haven't driven a Panda since Christmas Eve... Wen't for a little spin (on private land of course), she drove completely fine. Brakes a little spongy at first but sorted themselves out after a few feet of braking.
Forgot what its like to drive a car without power steering though...

So.... uhhh is it ok that the throttle cable nuts are only finger tight? It seems to have solved my problem?
I'll get a picture of the cable anyway since I should probably replace it anyway, just going out to wash her now (y)

I'm so happy! :D

But in the naughty corner :( :p
Still in the corner, got no Tax, MOT or insurance. Went for one last cheeky drive before getting in the bloomin' Renault and driving back to Uni.

When I break up for Easter, 2nd week of April, I'm going to finish up the other bits I need to sort out (gaskets and things) and MOT her, if she passes then I'll tax her and hopefully insure her as a second car :D

its the same throttle cable that Talon had. mine snapped where the cable goes into the metal.
see the pictures of it a few posts back..
Somehow I completely missed that post?? don't think I've ever seen it before, whoops
Yes it would appear Talon has the same cable as Char', which would make sense as they're similar ages. Did you just replace the cable? Can't seem to find one for sale that's the same type.

i had to replace the thing that the cable winds on to, that is bolted to the carb.. and also needed a bracket that fixed to the intake manifold. then the other style cable..

that was the only thing i could do. these cables are badly flawed. the more common type are much better!
Oh.

Well I'll just hope mine holds out for now...
