Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) The Panda

Introduction

Name Change! Previously known as Charmania for anyone not in the know, she's had a slight rename, keeping the Char but sticking my favourite childhood Pokemon name in there, Charmander, mainly because the first time I ever encountered a Panda I was about 8 years old and Pokemon was my favourite thing in the whole world.

Some details,
1992 Fiat Panda 750 Mania
769cc FIRE engine.
Lowered 40mm.
Seicento Sporting Front Seats
Side Stripes for faster acceleration
Fiat 127 'Palio' Alloys.
Veglia Rev counter, so I can count my revs.

I washed her, wanted to take her somewhere nice for pictures but it hasn't been sunny for long enough to do that, so I'll get nicer pictures at some point....
Here she is now, Charmanda.

Sorry for the terrible lighting. Can't do much about the sun.
Axel stands may give a false oil reading when filling up. I just crawl under...plenty of room.
Put her back on the floor when I put the oil in, only on axle stands when draining.
Only took me just over an hour this time, thats a new record for me. Sump plug was a bit stiff but oil successfully changed so that should make up for all the sitting on her.

Also took her to visit her very distant German cousin in the shape of my friends 1990 VW Caddy with about 100hp more than Char'

Fingers underneath the rear and tug really hard (y)

A back and forth jiggle helps too.

And then the inevitable two hour oil refil!

And have plasters ready for the bleeding knuckles - some are so tight you lose blood when they finally come up & you whack something hard (so to speak!) :D

I sometimes wimp out and use a gardening glove to pull the Sisley one out. You would have thought it would get easier after 24 years of use really...........

...but fortunately I realised I can't get the oil cap off?

Although I know how to take these blasted things off, I have to say -- especially with my hands having so little strength left in them -- that this is one of the worst things about the Panda. It took me about three minutes to remove Hal's, when I inspected him; and it's why (although it will probably be as much of a s*d; just easier to grip...), Betty will be having a posh metal one....

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles, though....

I think it's really great that a young man like you hasn't succumbed to peer pressure to drink himself into oblivion! Well done you!

:) thanks

who needs alcohol anyway, when you have a fiat panda?

that is the only drug i need.

im not addicted.. i can quit whenever i want....

Well she is successfully down here in Portsmouth with me. The drive down was good, forgot what a pleasure it is to drive her and how much fun that silly little exhaust note is

Shes absolutely filthy though, 100 miles of rainy motorway have left her very mucky so if it ever stays sunny for more than 10 minutes I'll try and give her a wash

She's only a few hundred miles off her next milestone, 90,000 miles.

I'd completely forgotten to mention this but on my pleasant drive back to Portsmouth the other night I had my heater on for probably the third time since I got her and I noticed the heater is basically on or off, is this normal behavior?
The slider thingymaboop produces a lot of heat when all the way to the red, move it about half an inch up and you get just cold air, not even a hint of warm.
Is it supposed to be variable or literally just on or off?

Is normal behaviour tbh. It's supposed to be variable, but has to be very finely tuned over 10-15 min of nudging it a mm at a time until just right from experience :p :bang:

Firstly, congratulations on 32,000 posts.... :slayer:

Secondly, I found the 'sweet spot' for warm air in Hal (eventually); only to get back into Pippin, and completely b*gg*r it up: as it's in a different place, of course...!

I was blissfully unaware it was so fine tuned having only owned a Panda for mostly summer months...
Tomorrow I'll try and find a sweet spot if its chilly.

If you drive fast enough, the external air-vents compensate for the fact your face/feet is/are melting... -- or you can have one hand hot, and one hand cold...! :D

This is what I was doing on the drive down Sunday, on the motorway at ~70mph, external vent open so one hand freezing, other hand blasted with obscenely hot air... It made a happy medium in the middle though... I'll try and see if I can find that perfect 'warm' spot next time...
