Hi all

Wondering if anyone can help I have a 2016 500x.

I recently upgraded the standard 5 inch u connect radio to a 7 inch got proxi alignment and all good.

However I was looking to activate CarPlay in her , I bought the 2 usb port media block and installed however nothing showing , what am I missing, I did note the new block has 3 plugs at the rear opposed to the 2 on my old one , both ports giving power however need some help with this one what else is needed.

Cheers

Yeah same issue here but I haven't swapped the USB + Aux module over to the 2 x USB port module.

I do get power out of the USB, the 7" headunit does have CarPlay but when I plug an iPhone in, CarPlay doesn't launch.

Any ideas?

I recently did the same procedure and CarPlay is working. First extended the proxi length to 235 bytes and modified the following bytes as written:

Byte 148= 05 Uconnect 7
Byte 157= 01 CarPlay
Byte 160= 01 Android Auto

Eyvallah! So besides mounting the newer 7 inch module, all you just need to do is edit the code (proxy)?
Is it basically the same as this guide: https://www.fiatforum.com/guides/ho...play-android-head-unit-in-a-series-4-car.848/ with only the difference in Byte edits ?

Could you give a bit more detail? What is this "new usb module with two ports"? Allah razı olsun.
The first one is the old usb module that comes with the 5 inch uconnect. You can use it with the uconnect 7 and Android Auto works with it.

The second one is the "new usb module with two ports" that comes standard with the uconnect 7 starting from model year 2018. You need this for CarPlay.

Thanks for clarifying this.

Did you need to make an amendment to the Proxi after installing the new 2 x USB module?

NB: Apologies for taking an age to respond. Locked myself out of my email and forum account for months!

No, you do not need to.

There is also an additional USB mini B connector behind this module. I used this to route another USB output to the inside of the armrest. Pretty useful for those who copy their music for flash disks and want to use Android Auto at the same time.

Thank you for the advise.

I swapped out the USB+AUX for the 2 x USB + AUX module and then then proceeded to extend the proxy with the amendments you advised above.

Happy to report that I now have CarPlay working!

A nice to have feature. The 7 inch version really suits with the interior. Much better than those android units without physical knobs and buttons.

For the sake of completeness you need to change car configuration in the BCM and set "number of USB ports" to 2 if you want to use the additional usb output behind the usb module. You do not have to do this if you only use android auto with this additional USB output. It is just for playing music with flash disk.

Yeah totally agree, the Uconnect 7” hardware looks very sleek and really does jump the interior forward 5+ years from a visual POV.

I was fully against an aftermarket headunit as they just look and feel clunky. Plus I was also worried about losing the car configuration options (e.g. lights, locks etc.) which you can access in the Uconnect.

The software implementation of CarPlay is a bit odd though…

I still can’t quite believe that CarPlay is not full screen with a “Fiat” app, to return back to the standard Uconnect interface. That is how literally every other vendor (first party or third party) has implemented it, including Fiat (well, Mopar) on their more recent head units too.

Even stranger that on Android Auto, that is full screen and it’s just a CarPlay limitation.

I did actually make the change in the Proxy from USB+AUX to 2xUSB+AuX but didn’t bother running the additional cable, as all my music is streaming based.

That's good news you got it all working. I have been thinking about the same upgrade for my 2016. If you don't mind me asking:
1. What year is the 7" unit?
2. Where did you get it from?

The Uconnect 7” I used was second hand, out of a 2020 donor car.

Ordered it from eBay (UK)
