General car radio aerial replacement

Some low life snapped my aerial last night, leaving the threads from the aerial snapped off in the base so now I need to replace both the base and aerial.... the trouble is how do I remove this......





so I can remove this......





I take it I need to remove the interior trim to get under the roof lining so I can remove the nut on the base ??

hiya, they're a bit of a pig but I did mine with a small drill and a bolt shifter.

The inner part of mine was brass, so I drilled a 2.5mm hole in the centre, using a #1 left handed bolt shifter, GENTLY drive it into the broken bit of the aerial stub.
you might need a little heat, I've found it helps. Be careful of the plastic round the base, and of course your roof paint. If you have a heat gun, it's a bit more gentle than open heat.

Totally agree with old timer, you have nothing to lose by trying to extract the remains of the aerial. After all if it all goes wrong you ain't lost anything.

The extraction tool,is called an easy out and screwfix sell a set for under £4

Thanks for the replies fellas, ordered a replacement one from e bay, bad mistake as it was totally the wrong base.
Tried an easy out tool but failed! so in the end I have soldered a long bit of insulated wire onto what is left of the antenna base and it works a treat but looks ugly, that said it fits in well with the rest of the car LOL

Which I used to help describe removing the base of the aerial. Removing the interior light section you have photo'd, not the whole roof panel as one of the members did.
The base I got for my '54 Dynamique wasn't perfect. But managed to make the screw hole in the small circuit board that the aerial has to attach to slightly larger for the new screw and fits ok, if slightly proud of the roof. Plus the new aerial can now be put flat under a roof rack, so that if I'm careless with my kayak it won't be knocked off again.
