The time has come for me to say good bye. I've had the Multipla MKII for 4 years and to be honest it has served us well. I've loved it and hated it in equal measure on occasions, however, it never actually broke down. With the help and advise of one or two of you kind people i was able to save on Garage costs on little niggles, however the usual bits that needed doing were always going to be expensive.
It has been a great car and if Fiat actually did a more up to date version (slightly Smaller) i probably would have considered another Fiat but they don't so it's time to move on.
Once again thanks very much and i hope i was also able to contribute to this Forum with stuff i've learn't along the way.

Umberto

Ive had my MK2 for 4.5 years, paid 6k and done 60k miles in it. I can't bring myself to look at all the bills.. It must be 3k plus….. we are thinking off selling ours but the 3x3 seating is great and we recently went to centre parks six up. And to Germany doing 2356 in 12 days...The space is great but the build quality is poor and the quality of some after market parts is poor. Ive just replaced the off side bottom arm after 36k from when I replaced them last time! I spent £380 doing the subframe bushes and abs sensor and trailing arm bearing in July . 4 shox and 4 sping this year aaswell..Luckily the bushes are now available which is a godsend!. I always try and buy genuine parts as my local dealer as they look after me. The car does what it does great but the build quality needs to be better… Good luck with whatever you buy next...

Good point.

Nice to know Northerners are at the forefront of politeness and etiquette.

Dwindling owners, hmm tell me about, I have what some call the final generation Multipla, and I have not seen a 2008/08 plate or newer over the last 4 months since I bought mine. I am told that Fiat did not sell many Multi's in 2009 and 2010 before production stopped in September 2010.

You're right QinteQ. I consider myself told off. :(

So Umberto, farewell, thanks for all your contibutions on the forum, best wishes for the future and I hope that your Multis' replacement lives up to expectations. What have you gone for?

Dwindling ownership/forum members seems very much the case since since Christmas. In the last few threads, all I seem to have read about are cars being scrapped or forumers departing to pastures new. Will the last one to leave please turn the lights out?!!!!

If it wasn't for this forum, it would just be another car.

Collectively, this forum has saved thousands of pounds and manhours, not to mention injecting a bit of light relief on occasion.

Safe driving

BTW, What did you replace the Multi with?

I first had a Multipla 110 ELX JTD, it was a fine fettle animal, you could not reign that thing in, it was eager and willing and very very 'light of foot'. Sadly the gearbox died and I couldn't be arrased so I just bought another one the same week it died, to save changing the box for an unknown other

I then bought an even older Multipla 105 SX JTD with just over 80k, put about 4k on it, did - BOTH FRONT DROP BARS - BOTH JACKING POINTS WELDED & SHULTZ'd - BOTH WISHBONE's and an OSF SPRING, on BIG BOOT 205 / 55 / 16's [still needs an OSF CV BOOT]. That was and is still a lucky car. My total cost is listed above and it was SORN'ed Guy Fawkes night 2011. Two months ago if flew through the test with the same BOOT advisory,

It only gives me a max average of 33pmg and the minimum is surprisingly about the same, to acheive the 50+mpg I used to get from the Multi I need to drive the Voyager at a steady 50mph [ish] The 105 SX is still parked up SORN'd, I haven't used it since 2011 I just keep it for a spare, and I'll put it through another test this bonfire night, lets face it it was a vey lucky purchase, I could have chosen any one of a dozen dogs and I was just lucky enough to buy a gud~n.

Just lucky .. .. could have gone either way !

I was tempted to replace our multi with a grand voyager as the spec on them is very high with plenty of room. 2 things let them down though in my opinion.

The first is the 2 star ncap rating which is fine if you don't intend crashing but the main one was the 470kg payload which is very low for a 7 seater, if you put 7 people in who weigh 11 stone each the car would be overloaded.

Nice motor though if it wasn't for those points I would of bought one, and the new model (08 on) like you have are much improved in the safety ratings but were just a bit pricey for us when we swapped. as it is I'm lumbered with a french special

Bye bye and good luck with what ever you buy...
We have an smax aswell and they are just 2 totally different beasts!
The smax drives like a hot hatch, which means it has the rock hard ride to match! I still prefer a leisurely cruise in the multi! Its like sitting on your sofa while driving...just so comfortable!
Yes its gonna cost you money to keep on the road...but then again, what car doesn't! And thing is if you belong to a forum like this...I think you look for problems! 95% of the driving population just drive there cars till they break or MOT time!! Then the big bills roll in....

What about a 500L, they are much bigger in real life, but only 5 seats although I believe a 7 seater is on it's way.

500L looks nice and roomy, but what's the point when the New Panda has the same space. Get the feeling Fiat are going to create lots of 500 derivatives so that they have the same body styles of the MINI derivatives.

If it's any consolation, there's a 61-plate Mutlipla on Autotrader. But you're right - late model ones are like hens teeth! Just as well they're not the real thing  - long live the mk1! :)

There are probably more MK1's on the road comapred to MK2's. I see many 2002,2003 MK1's every day and not a single MK2 every day.

Coming from a Stilo Multiwagon, I wanted a Multipla. I had considered a Honda FRV, but the centre seat fron and rear are only for toddlers and the engines were gutless. Bravo just offers a 5 door hatch and not a multiwagon derivative, which I think has done the Bravo harm, as plenty of Stilo's on the road compared to a Bravo.

Some friends thought I would get another Croma, but been there and will not go back.

Thanks for your kind words mate like i said, i have enjoyed owning a multipla like all the other fiats i've owned in the past but as Fiat no longer make the kind of cars i want to own these days i've decided to go a bit more upmarket and buy a Benz B Class.:)

Well after careful consideration and a bit of creative budgeting i have decided to go upmarket and go for a new B Class.:)

I don't know if it's a coincidence but i'm seeing a lot more MK2 recently in S.London than i've ever seen before, 08/09 plates in particular.

U probely notice them more now because ur not driving about in one or someone is telling you to buy another 1 like the wheels u had on ur multi they expensive

Those alloys are hard to come by, as i remember they were a factory option from new. They are available though from Italy, they're made by Toora and they need 205/45/17 extra load tyres which are expensive!!
:)
